Breast cancer is the second most type of cancers affecting women.It's preventable and can be fully treated with early detection.
As we are in the month of breast cancer awareness,I feel good to share abit on breast Cancer.
Its occurrence is attributed by several factors such as genetic/family history, smoking,alcohol, overweight, hormonal imbalance,poor diet and lack of physical exercises.
PREVENTION
Mostly is prevented by controlling the risk factors .
-Limiting or stopping alcohol intake
-Avoid smoking
-Control your weight into a healthy BMI
-Physical exercises
-Healthy diet
-Avoid intake of unprescribed hormonal products
-For those with a family history of breast cancer ensure you do regular breast exam.This is to enable early detection and full treatment
SCREENING 🎗️
There are several screening methods starting from self breast exam, clinical breast exam to imaging such as mammography etc .
SELF BREAST EXAM 💝🎗️
This involves regular examination of the breasts by yourself . It's advisable to do it immediately after the end of every me**es or monthly for all women either in menopause or reproductive cycle.
WHAT TO CHECK:
-Breast sizes and shape.They should be similar unless on adolescent development stage.
-The colour should be the same
-Dimpling or nodules
-On palpation, feeling of lumps/masses which either stable or mobile.
-Cracked and inverted ni**le
-Bloody or pus discharge on squeezing the ni**les
-Pain /tenderness on palpation
-Tenderness or mass on the axillary lymph nodes (armpits)
HOW TO DO SELF BREAST EXAM
-Stand infront of a mirror toply naked with the arms on sides.Check the size ,shape and color of the breasts.Check for any cracks ,dimpling and invertion of the ni**les
-Palpate the breasts circularly , vertically or by any appropriate direction as long as the whole breast and armpits are palpated.
-Palpate the left breast using right hand and vice versa.Note any lumps/masses,tenderness.
-Squeeze the ni**les and check for any abnormal discharge.
