Happy World Health Day! At Imarisha Jamii, we believe that good nutrition is the foundation of good health. This year, we urge everyone in Turkana County to prioritize nutrition education and adopt healthy eating habits to prevent malnutrition and promote overall well-being.

However, given the current drought situation, we recognize the need for essential nutrition supplementation, particularly for the most vulnerable pregnant women and children. On this World Health Day, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that all pregnant women and children in Turkana County have access to essential nutrition supplementation. Let's work together to make a priority and ensure that no one goes hungry.

Promoting good nutrition can help prevent and treat chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension, major public health concerns in Turkana County. Let's invest in nutrition education and promote healthy eating habits to build a healthier and more resilient community in Turkana County. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of pregnant women and children in Turkana County and ensure everyone has the nutrition they need to thrive.

Happy World TB Day! Today, we celebrate the progress made in the fight against TB and renew our commitment to end this disease. At Imarisha Jamii, we believe that primary healthcare is key to eliminating TB. That's why we're working to package TB care and treatment to suit the different populations in Turkana, including pastoral, fisherfolk, urban, peri-urban, and cross-border communities.

Did you know that TB is a curable disease? With the right treatment, people can recover and lead healthy lives. At Imarisha Jamii, we're proud to say that we identified 2110 TB cases in Turkana County in 2022. We're working hard to ensure that everyone who needs it has access to high-quality TB care and treatment.

To promote TB awareness and prevention, we partnered with the Turkana County Government to hold TB screening at California grounds in Lodwar. Over three days, we screened a total of 444 patients using digital X-ray technology. Our screening results showed that out of the 444 patients screened, 49 were found to have TB and have been referred for treatment.

At Imarisha Jamii, we're committed to using data to drive our TB care and treatment efforts. In 2022, we identified 293 known HIV-positive TB cases in Turkana County, highlighting the need for integrated HIV/TB services. We also identified 62 new HIV-positive TB cases, underscoring the importance of TB screening for all people living with HIV.

Our data also showed that 1689 TB cases were new negatives, indicating the need for increased TB awareness and prevention efforts in Turkana. And finally, we identified 293 TB cases already on ART, highlighting the importance of ongoing TB screening and care for people living with HIV.

On this World TB Day, we want to thank all our partners, including the Turkana County Government and our dedicated staff, for their commitment to ending TB. Together, we can make a difference and create a world where TB is no longer a threat to public health. Let's continue to work together towards a TB-free future!

At Imarisha Jamii, we believe in the power of servant leadership and putting the needs of our patients and communities first. Our Care and Treatment Lead recently stepped up to the challenge at Makutano HC, offering services to TB patients and enrolling new identifications, despite being there for support supervision. This dedication to quality healthcare is reflected in our team's efforts to support overwhelmed healthcare workers, such as at the Nurse Training in Lodwar. We are committed to serving the people of Turkana County and delivering the highest standard of care possible.

Amref Health Africa continues to be at the forefront of championing healthcare initiatives that positively impact African communities. Recently, we had the honor of meeting with members of the Embassy of Denmark in Kenya and Somalia to discuss a possible collaboration to improve health outcomes for refugees in the Kakuma camp.

As a leading health organization with over 40 years of experience working in Turkana County, we were able to showcase our expertise and the many programs we are currently implementing in the area. Our new strategic focus areas in primary health care - people-centered health systems and social determinants of health - emphasize the importance of addressing the root causes of poor health outcomes.

We recognize that social determinants of health, such as livelihoods, education, and climate change, are especially glaring now, with drought profoundly impacting health outcomes. As a leader in the health sector, we remain committed to leveraging our expertise and partnerships to drive sustainable solutions that tackle these issues head-on.

At Amref Health Africa, we are passionate about our work and remain committed to improving health outcomes for African communities. We are grateful for the opportunity to showcase our work and look forward to potential collaborations that will enhance the health and well-being of refugees in the Kakuma camp and beyond.

In recent years, Turkana County has made significant strides in improving the access and quality of health and social services for its communities, particularly those most at risk, such as female s*x workers and fisherfolks around the Turkana Lake region. As a project committed to HIV prevention and treatment and providing quality health and social services for vulnerable communities, we were honored to participate in the Joint Learning Visit organized by USAID Resilience Learning Activity and the County Government of Turkana.

At the visit, we showcased our HIV prevention programming, care, and treatment programs for female s*x workers and fisherfolk where fish for s*x trade is rampant. We visited St Mary's PHC Kalokol and Longetch Dispensary, two facilities supported by USAID Imarisha Jamii. Our mission is to enhance the quality of county-driven health and social services in Turkana County and to improve the lives of vulnerable individuals.

At the heart of our work is the commitment to building community resilience through partnership and collaboration. We would like to express our gratitude to the County Government of Turkana , USAID Kenya's Resilience Learning Activity, and other USAID Kenya implementing partners, like Concern Kenya, World Relief, Turkana Development Trust, , Kenya Red Cross Society , World Food Programme, and Lokado for their continued support and partnership in achieving our shared goals.

As we move forward, we remain committed to learning from our experiences and sharing our lessons learned with stakeholders. We believe that working together can build stronger, more resilient communities in Turkana County and beyond.
