For nearly 20 years, Johari lived in silence. 💔

For nearly two decades, 69-year-old Johari, a mother of 9 from the remote parts of Tana River County, lived with the constant leaking of urine caused by Obstetric Fistula.

Her injury came after prolonged obstructed labour.

She lost her baby.

And then… she lost pieces of herself.

The smell of urine followed her everywhere.

People whispered behind her back.

Some laughed.

Others kept their distance.

She stopped attending social gatherings.

She withdrew from community life.

She lived in shame.

She lost hope.

For years, Johari did not know treatment existed.
She believed this was her fate.

Until one day…

She and her youngest son heard a radio message about free treatment at our sister health facility WADADIA-Habibat Mother and Child Holistic Health And Training Hospital

A message of hope reached her in the most remote corner of Kenya.
And she came.

Johari’s story reminds us why awareness matters.
It reminds us why outreach matters.

It reminds us why your support matters.

At Women And Development Against Distress In Africa(WADADIA) , through our HER Dignity Program, we are identifying, treating, and restoring dignity to women battling obstetric fistula, childbirth injuries, and other pelvic floor conditions.

But many more women are still suffering in silence.

A sneak Pic into the ongoing

We had a sit-down with WADADIA-Habibat Clinical Officer, Mr. James Sasaka, and he shared a glimpse of the ongoing free surgical camp.

This week has been filled with courage, hope, and remarkable transformation as women from different counties arrive seeking healing after years of pain, stigma and isolation.
Our medical team, nurses and psychosocial support team continue to work with unwavering dedication to restore dignity, one smile, one repaired injury, one woman at a time. 💛

Encouraging progress:
🔹 Successful reconstructive surgeries completed so far
🔹 Women recovering with strength and renewed emotional confidence
🔹 Strong post-surgery support from our psychosocial team
🔹 Reintegration planning already underway for smooth transitions home

We are now thrilled to share that the momentum continues as we transition into the Free Pediatric Surgical Camp, which is already ongoing
Our clinicians are excited and fully prepared to transform the lives of children, to restore health and hope for bright futures.
