So I cleaned my mirror...
I looked at the woman looking back to me in the mirror... I smiled she smiled back, I frowned she frowned back... I laughed she laughed... I made funny faces...
See we have not always like this...
For years I looked into the mirror I saw ... I saw an ugly face look back at me, I saw the acne on the face, I saw the unkempt hairstyle, I saw someone I didn't like... And I tried my best to not look into the mirror
But the older I grew and saw resilience, I saw the sacrifices she made, I saw the dormant gifting s and abilities... I listened to the words of her mouth clearly and I thought there's a disconnect... A dissonance... This could not be it
So I came back to the mirror, I adjusted the lighting in the room, I cleaned the mirror, I adjusted the mirror to the light and I looked back into the mirror...
I looked past the healing acne, I adjusted the hairstyle, I looked deep into her eyes and I paused...
It was shocking... I saw power, I saw beauty, I saw a calm determination, I saw much more than what I admire in a person... So I smiled, she smiled back,
I whispered "You are beautiful"
She whispered back, "You are beautiful"
We both smiled...
And this moment cemented itself in my being. I felt seen, I felt loved, I felt embraced by myself, I felt acknowledged
And now I frequent the mirror because I love her and she loves me
We dance together, laugh together
And the days I tell her, "Today has been tough..." Though she says the same... Her eyes tell me... "You have got this. You are powerful. And you are never alone because, I am cheering you on"
