Soreness can be a byproduct of

Bad rest, dehydration, and poor

I stroooongly dislike the concept of trying to sleep with a "neutral" spine. Not only do we have to lift, sit, stand, walk, and breathe with a "neutral" spine, but now we have to sleep with one as well?
People adopt a handful different sleeping positions
throughout the night and change positions dozens of
times.
This means that you are NOT staying in your
preferred position the entire night AND you are NOT
maintaining a "neutral" spine. It's impossible.
Don't take this to mean that I think sleeping position
doesn't matter. That's not what I'm saying at all.
Individuals with certain health conditions might benefit from one position over another. People with pain or who are post surgery might find certain positions more comfortable than others.
Certain demographics adopt different positions more than others. For example, older individuals rarely sleep on their stomachs.
However, it's ridiculous to think that there is a
one-size-fits-all recommendation for the "BEST" sleeping
position.
Most people would be better off improving their
sleep quality and/or quantity (which is actually associated
with pain) instead of worrying about if their spine is rotated 3 degrees to the left when sleeping on their right side (that would give me anxiety and make it harder for me to fall asleep).
Do whatever feels good for you.
Don't make it much more
complicated than that.

When we connect with and understand others, we start to truly appreciate that people are not the same. Nobody is the same. People are not carbon copies of one another. They don't have the same skills, outputs, problems, and issues. They don't put in equal amounts
of effort or deal with equal challenges. People are different.
Everybody is worthy of empathy, care, and humanity, but everyone is not the same, and they should not be treated the same.
