Let us be sincere for a moment.

I have worked in the field of medicine for 13 years, and in that time, I have witnessed the tragic consequences of backstreet abortions, including the deaths of women. I have helped thousands of women access safe, medical abortions in secure facilities. According to WHO data, three out of five young women have had abortions. Unwanted pregnancies often lead to missed opportunities, including in education and employment. Abortion, including pregnancy termination and tests, is a subject taught in medical school. We pay fees to learn these procedures. It costs approximately Ksh 5,500 to terminate a pregnancy within the first four months with a qualified doctor, but unfortunately, many midwives and clinicians see this as a money-making opportunity, charging between Ksh 14,000 to Ksh 20,000. This forces vulnerable women to seek unsafe abortions from untrained individuals, putting their health at risk.

It's a painful truth that we must challenge the traditions imposed on us. Many of these traditions are ones we inherited, not ones we truly understand. Women should have the right to choose whether or not to terminate an unwanted pregnancy. Your personal feelings on this matter are just that—feelings. Society may have taught you that abortion is wrong, but that doesn’t mean it is inherently so. Even if you quote religion, remember that you were not born with these beliefs—you adopted them.

During times of crisis, we know certain things happen to women and girls. Domestic violence increases, with working from home, school closures, job losses, and a general sense of stress and loss of control. Women have specific health needs, especially related to their sexual and reproductive health. Their reproductive system can be vulnerable to dysfunction or disease, whether it has been active or not. Moreover, women are subject to the same diseases that affect men, though the disease patterns often differ due to genetic, hormonal, and lifestyle factors.

Every day, women and girls around the world seek reproductive care but do not have access to safe services. Many are unsure where to turn for help, don’t know their rights, or are too afraid of the stigma to seek support. This lack of knowledge and fear of judgment is putting lives at risk.

The high levels of stigma surrounding abortion contribute to a culture of silence, making it difficult for women to access the safe services they need. This silence fuels myths and misinformation, further perpetuating the stigma. It’s a harmful cycle we need to break.

Don’t let one mistake define your life. Life happens to everyone, even the best of us. If it does, don’t risk your health. We are here to offer safe, caring support and guide you through the process. Sexual and reproductive healthcare requires collaboration, and we understand that unplanned pregnancies can be overwhelming. During a pregnancy crisis, all you need is non-judgmental support. Our team of experts is ready to assist you during this time.

We also understand how distressing painful, irregular, or unpleasant menstruation can be, as well as the worry that comes with a missed period. That’s why we offer professional counseling and support.

LET US BE SINCERE HERE FOR ONCE !
I have been in this field of medicine for 13yrs , in my line of duty seen women die on attempted backstreet abortions, I have assisted 1000s of them procure abortions in secure medical facility .. 3 out of five young women have procured abortions data from WHO .. unwanted pregnancy results to several failed opportunities , education , job and several other things .. wakutoa mimba atatoa , pregnancy termination and tests is a module in medical school ,you pay school fee to learn ...it takes around Ksh 5500 to terminate 0 to 4 months pregnancy with medical doctor sadly most midwives and CO's even Mo's taken this issue as money venture charging 14k to 20k making poor young women to rush to back street clinics to attempt su***de from untrained quack doctors ..think again
It's a painful fact that we all must unlearn the traditions that were forced upon us. Traditions that we found here. That we know nothing about. Women should have a choice of aborting unwanted pregnancies. Your feelings about this subject are just that. Feelings. You were fed by society that it was wrong to abort. Otherwise you have no other reason you oppose this subject. Even if you quote religion, were not born religious. You found it here.
Women on Web has been featured in many media outlets across the world.

There are a few things we know about what happens in times of crisis to women and girls.
First, domestic and intimate partner violence increases. Working from home, closing of schools, the inevitable job losses and all of the stress and lack of control that comes with it…
women have specific health needs related to the sexual and reproductive function.
Second, women have an elaborate reproductive system that is vulnerable to dysfunction or disease, even before it is put to function or after it has been put out of function.
Third, women are subject to the same diseases of other body systems that can affect men. The disease patterns often differ from those of men because of genetic constitution, hormonal environment or genders involved lifestyle behavior.

Every day, women and girls around the world Sexual Reproductive care but don't have access to safe Sexual health related services. Many women don't know where to turn for support, don't know what the law allows, or they are too worried about the stigma associated with Reproductive care to even ask for help. This lack of knowledge and fear of judgement is putting lives at risk.

High levels of stigma around abortion are creating a culture of silence, meaning women who need safe services often lack essential information on where to access them. Stigma feeds silence, and silence feeds myths. Myths that misinform, mislead and further stigmatise. It’s a vicious and harmful circle that we need to break.

What are the advantages of early abortion?
The further along in pregnancy you are when you get an abortion, the more complicated and more expensive it can be and the harder it can be to find an abortion provider. How far along you are can also affect what type(s) of abortion are available to you, since the abortion pill (medication abortion) is only available up to 11 weeks of pregnancy (and at some clinics, it isn’t even available up to 11 weeks of pregnancy). Also some states don’t allow abortion past a certain point in pregnancy. It’s important to take the time you need to make a decision about whether you want to get an abortion. Just keep in mind that the sooner you seek abortion services, the less expensive and easier it will be, and the more options you might have

What does “viability” mean?

If you’re living in a state with an abortion ban, you’re probably wondering what viability means. Fetal viability is the point at which the fetus is likely to be able to live outside the uterus (with medical support). It usually occurs between 24 and 28 weeks of pregnancy.

Sexual health & wellness Pregnancy & fertility
How to deal with an unplanned pregnancy
Things don’t always go as planned, and even the best birth control can fail. Keep calm.

So you’re pregnant… and you aren’t sure how to feel about that. Maybe you took a pregnancy test a few minutes ago and are still digesting the news, or maybe you’ve had your suspicions for a while because of your late period, tender breasts, and feelings of nausea.

Whatever you’re feeling and thinking right now, you are not alone. About half of all pregnancies in the United States today are accidental. The good news is that you have options—and there are places you can find support, no matter what you decide to do.

So what are your legal options? Once you are pregnant, you have three choices for how to move forward:

You can continue the pregnancy, give birth, and parent your child.

You can continue the pregnancy, give birth, and place your child for adoption.

You can end the pregnancy by having an abortion.

It’s important to take time to consider all the options in light of your personal circumstances and values and make the choice that’s right for you. Let’s look at each option in a little more detail.

Parenting
Most of us want to be parents at some point in our lives. It’s also true that a growing number of people are deciding that parenting isn’t for them. Either way is fine! Raising children is a big job, and it’s good to think about whether or not it’s something you want to do. If you’re already a parent, then you know exactly what’s involved and may have a sense of whether you want to have another kid right now or not.

For many, parenting is one of life’s most wonderful and rewarding experiences. It’s also a lifelong commitment. Choosing to become a parent means going through pregnancy and childbirth, then raising another human being from infancy to adulthood. It can be expensive and exhausting, and lots of families struggle to make ends meet. The question is, do you want to be a parent? And if so, is now the right time for you to bring a(nother) child into your life?

Adoption
If you aren’t ready to become a parent, you might want to think about adoption. Placing your child for adoption means going through pregnancy and childbirth, then allowing other people to raise your child. Adoption has changed a lot over the past 50 years. Today, most adoptions are at least partly open, meaning there is some contact or information shared between the birth parents and the adoptive parents. This might mean exchanging letters and photos, having regular phone calls and visits, or even going on vacations and celebrating holidays together.

That said, adoption is not co-parenting; it is a legal arrangement in which you permanently give up your right to act as a parent. Even with the best arrangements, placing your child for adoption can be very difficult. If you are considering adoption, it is very important to find an agency that will give you honest information and support for all your options without pressure or bias.

Abortion
If you don’t want to be a parent right now (or ever), or if for any reason you can’t continue your pregnancy, you can have an abortion. Abortion is a common and safe medical procedure, though in some places it can be difficult to access. Factors like where you live, what kind of insurance you have, how far along you are in pregnancy, and whether you are 18 or older can all affect how easy or difficult it will be to find a provider.

Different people have different feelings and beliefs about abortion. For some folks having an abortion is a simple decision, while for others it may be difficult or even out of the question. Whatever you are feeling, you deserve to explore your thoughts about abortion in a safe space without judgment or assumptions from other people about what’s right for you.

Support for your decision
You may not be ready to make a decision right away, and that’s okay. There are a lot of factors to consider, and you don’t want to rush such a big decision. At the same time, it’s important to access abortion or prenatal care as soon as possible. A good first step even if you’re not sure what you want to do yet is to look for a health care provider who can help you confirm your pregnancy, find out how far along you are, and make referrals for whatever care you decide you need.

Facing an unplanned pregnancy can be scary and overwhelming, but don’t forget: you are not alone, you have options, and you deserve support.

What should you bring with you to your abortion procedure (also called in-clinic abortion or surgical abortion)?

If you’re having an abortion procedure, the abortion provider you’re going to should give you specific instructions about what to bring and do to prepare for your appointment, but make sure you bring:

Your insurance card if you have insurance and want to use it.

A photo ID (you may not need this if you don’t plan to use insurance).

A form of payment the clinic accepts.

A list of all of the medications that you take regularly, including vitamins and supplements.

A list of any medical conditions you have.

An extra pair of comfortable underwear (think: granny panties) that you can use a maxi pad with.

Something to read or do (like knitting, a crossword puzzle, or coloring) while you wait.
Comfy clothes to leave in. You can wear comfortable clothes to your appointment (we’d recommend something without a tight waistband) and then wear the same clothes home, or you can change into comfortable clothes after the procedure.

If your provider says you’re allowed to drink clear liquids leading up to your procedure, bring the clear liquid of your choice — this could include water, apple juice, tea without milk, or sports drinks. If you’re not sure if something counts as a clear liquid, ask someone at the health center.

Money for public transportation if that’s how you’ll be getting home. If you are choosing to have sedation during your procedure, you’ll need a support person to go with you on public transportation, ride with you in a cab or other ride service, or drive you home.

A support person, if you have one. This person may be able to wait for you in the waiting room, or they may need to wait outside due to COVID-19 restrictions. They can also just come pick you up after the procedure. This will be required if you have sedation during your procedure.

What can you do to prepare for taking the abortion pill (also called medication abortion)?

If you’re taking the abortion pill, you’ll actually be taking two different medications at different times. You’ll take the first medication (mifepristone) at the health center and the second medication (misoprostol) 24 to 48 hours later at home (or somewhere else safe and comfortable). The health center you’re going to should give you specific instructions about what to bring and do to prepare for the appointment where you will take the first medication, but make sure you bring:

Your insurance card if you have insurance and want to use it.
A photo ID (you may not need this if you don’t plan to use insurance).
A form of payment the clinic accepts.

A list of all of the medications you take regularly, including vitamins and supplements. A list of any medical conditions you have.

Money for public transportation if that’s how you’ll be getting home.

Before your appointment, make sure you:

Ask if there is anything you should avoid eating, drinking, or doing leading up to your appointment. Some providers may suggest you eat lightly beforehand since the first medication may cause nausea, diarrhea, or an upset stomach.

Ask which of your medications you should continue to take leading up to your appointment and which (if any) you shouldn’t take.

Don’t take any additional over-the-counter medications, like Tylenol or Advil, before your appointment, unless your health care provider tells you to.

Ask what over-the-counter pain medication you can take during your abortion if your provider doesn’t offer you prescription pain medication.

To prepare for taking the second medication at home, you may want to gather the following supplies in advance:

A heating pad

Comfortable clothes, including comfy underwear

Super absorbent maxi pads

A blanket in case you have chills

Ice chips and/or popsicles to suck on in case you have nausea or vomiting

Easily digestible food like plain crackers, white rice, bananas, broth, and plain white bread

Something to distract you, like movies, tv, magazines, coloring books, or video games.

A friend or other support person to keep you company and help you with anything you need help with.

What other pregnancy options do I have?

If you’re pregnant and still deciding what you want to do, you have options. Abortion is one, and adoption and parenting are others. We have more information about abortion, adoption, and parenting to help you make the decision that is right for you. You can also check out All-Options for more information and to talk with impartial, non-judgmental counselors. It’s important to take the time you need to make this decision. Just keep in mind that the further along you are in pregnancy, the more complicated and expensive it may become to get an abortion and the fewer options of abortion providers you may have.
