PrEP or Pre-exposure Prophylaxis is an effective complementary HIV prevention method that provides 99% protection when taken as prescribed. Currently, only the oral HIV PrEP pills are available in the Philippines.
When HIV enters the body, it attacks CD4 cells which are responsible for immunity and resistance to disease. PrEP contains drugs known as anti-retrovirals or ARVs that disrupt the replication of the virus, preventing the start and establishment of HIV infection.
Remember, HIV PrEP is different from the medicine used as treatment for HIV.

What is Event-driven PrEP?

Fact: Event-driven PrEP, also called ED-PrEP, intermittent PrEP or 2+1+1, is a new and highly effective way for to protect themselves from and is an alternative for taking daily PrEP. -driven PrEP is taken when you can plan your *x and involves taking a medication to prevent getting HIV during s*x. Event-driven PrEP involves taking a double dose (two pills) of between 2 and 24 hours before you anticipate having s*x, and then, if s*x occurs, one pill 24 hours after the double dose and another 24 hours later. It works when taken correctly - the right dosage and the right timing. It is safe to take and shouldn’t interfere with other drugs you may take during s*x. Please NOTE that ED-PrEP is different from PrEP. With oral PrEP you will take a daily pill with the aim to reduce your risk of getting HIV. What is HPV?

It is a common that infects the skin and any moist membrane e.g. the cervix and the lining of the mouth and throat. Almost all cases of cervical cancer (99.7%) are caused by high-risk HPV (Human Papillomavirus).

papillomavirus (HPV) is an infection that is mainly transmitted through s*xual contact and can cause ge***al warts and some cancers.

There are around 100 known strains or types of human papillomaviruses.

Most ge***al HPV infections do not have any symptoms and the infection is cleared within one to two years.

The time between becoming infected and developing symptoms can be 2 to 3 months, with a range of 1 to 20 months for ge***al warts. It can take up to 10 years for a -risk HPV infection to develop into cancer.

Ge***al warts is diagnosed by a doctor based on history and examination. A Screening Test detects HPV infection in women.

Around 4/5 of us will get some type of HPV in our lifetime, but our system usually gets rid of it for us within 2 years. Most will never know they even had it. If our immune system is unable to get rid of , it becomes something called a persistent HPV infection. This causes the cells in the to change, which may lead to cervical cancer. But screening (smear tests) helps to find cell changes early.

A ratio of 10 to 15 women are being r***d daily in Nairobi county according to an Transform Clinic Nairobi and Nairobi Metropolitan Services, - Nairobi Metropolitan Services, Research/report. This April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month which aims to increase awareness about the causes and risk factors for s*xual assault and empower individuals to take steps to prevent it in their communities.
