🎁 If the holidays feel heavy or draining, you’re not imagining it.

🎁 For many adoptees, this season brings up things that don’t have easy names.

🎁 You don’t owe anyone a version of yourself that costs you your nervous system.

🎁 It’s okay if your version of rest looks quiet, distant, or simple.

🎁 What do you notice in your body when the holidays come up?

☁️ Research shows a clear link between adoption and unique mental health needs that are often overlooked.

☁️ While adoption is often painted as purely beautiful and “love is enough,” the reality is more nuanced: adoptees fall on a spectrum, and not every adoptee will need significant support or view adoption as a traumatic experience.

☁️ Still, many adoptees do require specialized, long-term care that families often don’t have access to.

☁️ This gap in post-adoption services leaves adoptees and caregivers navigating challenges without the tools they deserve.

☁️ We have to remember that acknowledging these complexities is how we create the support systems adoptees truly need to thrive.

🎄 Adoptees, anyone else feeling this?

🎄 Mine hit after two full weeks with my people - my parents who visited from the States and my partner. It was nonstop time together, sharing our favorite places, cooking A LOT, hosting Thanksgiving for 18+, and lots of cozy time at home.

🎄 It was wonderful… and then everyone left, and the quiet felt heavier than I expected.

🎄 For many adoptees, that shift from connection to sudden solitude can trigger a familiar “holiday high and crash,” stirring old separation feelings.

🎄 Seeing it through my adoptee lens helped me realize it’s not weakness, it’s just my body remembering.

🎄 I’m reframing the crash as solitude instead of alone-ness, and it’s helping.

🎄 If you’re feeling this too, you’re not alone. Be gentle with yourself this holiday season!

👏🏼 This Giving Tuesday, we’re raising support for three of our key programs: workshops for adopted teens, support groups for adoptive parents, and the HALO Program’s therapeutic supplies.

👏🏼 Each initiative strengthens identity, belonging, and mental health for adoptees and their families in Kenya.

👏🏼 Our community is small, but your impact is significant - every contribution directly funds healing spaces and essential materials.

👏🏼 If you’ve been touched by our work or believe in supporting adoptees, today is the perfect day to give.

👏🏼 Click the link in our bio to make a tax-deductible contribution. Your gift truly matters!

Join us tomorrow as we walk to raise awareness about the lived experiences of adoptees!

Together, we’re creating space for stories, understanding, and healing. This walk isn’t about promoting adoption. It’s about honoring its impact and the people at the center of it. Your presence helps build a more informed and compassionate community.

If you can’t join us in Nairobi, take a walk wherever you are, share a photo, and tag us at and use to stand with us in centering adoptive voices!

🦩 It’s another year around the sun for me tomorrow so it has me thinking and researching.

🦩 Birthdays and life transitions can feel heavy for adoptees, bringing up questions about identity, belonging, and early loss.

🦩 As a family therapist in training and an adoptee, I see how these moments can stir both joy and vulnerability.

🦩 Research highlights that adoptees often face emotional challenges during changes, but resilience grows when we have supportive bonds and practice self – compassion.

🦩 Honoring all parts of our story – painful and joyful – allows us to celebrate ourselves fully.

🦩 What does celebrating milestones feel like for you as an adoptee?

🦩 Share a moment that’s been meaningful or challenging. I’d love to hear your reflections.

Last night, our Q4 Advisory Board meeting brought together incredible minds committed to supporting adoptees and families! ✨

This quarter, we hosted meet-ups for adoptive parents, adopteens, and children. We launched the WhatsApp community group and the newsletter for parents and adult adoptees, and relocated the new therapy rooms. We’ve added branding and safety upgrades to our spaces too!

We celebrated the progress we’ve made and set the stage for exciting initiatives in 2026.

Grateful for our board’s guidance as we continue building programs that make a real difference.

Here’s to finishing 2025 strong and stepping into the new year with purpose! 💫

🔸 Every November, adoption takes center stage – but the people adoption impacts most are often left out of the spotlight.

🔸 Adoption Awareness Month didn’t start as a celebration; it started as a call to action for kids in foster care.

🔸 Over time, the focus got lost – and adoptees are reclaiming it.

🔸 We’re saying it louder this year: Adoption is complex. Awareness means listening.

🔸 Follow along to hear real stories, learn, and reimagined adoption through an adoptee lens.
