BLOOD PRESSURE REDUCTION LIFESTYLE MODIFICATIONS.

N/B visit a physician regularly for blood pressure monitoring and for health advise.

1.Weight reduction (maintain a B.M.I of 18.5-24.9)

2.Diet rich in fruits, vegetables, low fat dairy products, reduced saturated fats.

3.Dietary sodium reduction. (6g/day)

4.Physical activity. 30mins/day

5.Moderate alcohol consumption.

FAINTING

It is the brief loss of responsiveness.
It is caused by a temporary reduction of blood flow to the brain.
May be a reaction to; pain, exhaustion or emotional stress.

Do's
Ask the patient to lie down
Raise their legs supporting ankles on your shoulders to improve blood flow to the brain.
Watch their face for signs of recovery.

NB:If a person doesn't recover quickly, seek immediate medical attention.

BLISTERS

They occur when the skin is repeatedly rubbed againist each other or when it is exposed to heat.
damaged area leaks fluid that collects under the skin forming a blister.

WHAT TO DO

wash the area with clean water and rinse.
wipe the sorrounding skin dry.
cover the blister with an adhesive dressing.

NB:Bursting a blister increases the chances of an infection.

NOSE BLEEDING

Occurs when tiny blood vessels in the nose are ruptured as a result of

blow to the nose
over sneezing
high blood pressure
over use of anti coagulant medicine.

FIRST AID
-Tilt the head forward
-Breath through the mouth
-Press soft part of the nose for up to 10 minutes
-Avoid blowing the nose
-If bleeding lasts longer than 30 minutes, arrange to take casualty to hospital
-NB: If there is a head Injury, blood may appear thin and watery.
- SEE DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY.
