NOW I FULLY UNDERSTAND WHY PETRA IS LISTED AS ONE OF THE 7 WONDERW OF THE WORLD.
fans
If there’s a place we should all make time to see at least once in this lifetime—hizi ndizo. They are called wonders of the world for a reason. utakuwa tu unasema "waaaah" waaaau k**a ambulance 🤣
Places that humble you, teach you, and remind you the world is bigger, older, and more magical than your daily routine. Honestly, tunafaa kuenda hizi mahali. Your soul will thank you.
Walking into Petra feels like stepping into a movie but with dust, history, souvenirs, and pure adventure vibes. You walk ,walk thinking umefika ,then boom you release another waaaaaaauuu
We got in with the Jordan Pass (highly recommend 👌). At the entrance, kuna those cute souvenir stalls—of course I grabbed a thing or two, you can’t fight the tourist spirit. And you guesswd right, some fridge magnets and tote bags . Then we started the long walk toward The Siq.
Camels and horses are technically free, but listen…
once you hop on, usijidanganye—you WILL tip. 😂😂
I didnt even know that slow speed comes at a price my friend. In dollars or Dinars.
Luckily my daily walks all year? wadau, that was bootcamp. Because the distance from the entrance to the Siq is not kidogo. Along the way we passed ancient carvings and tombs, small hints of what the Nabateans created.
Then suddenly…
The Siq.
A Siq is this long, narrow natural gorge, like a dramatic VIP hallway made by nature. It was the ancient main entrance, protecting Petra and channeling water into the city. someni history please.
Like Petra’s way of saying, “Relax, let me build the suspense first.” 😂
Inside, it’s serene and magical ,and then you meet two real people dressed as Nabatean soldiers, standing like ancient guards. They even lower their spears (gourds) to “allow” you into the city. It’s such a cinematic moment, you almost forget you’re in 2025 and not 2000 years ago.
We kept walking, not knowing the surprise at the end.
Then, through that tiny slit of the gorge, the Treasury appears. ( refer to history)
Breathe-taking.
Regal.
Like it knows it’s the Beyoncé of ancient architecture.
People were taking pictures from every angle—front, side, squatting, lying on the ground—content creation madness, but i give props to the chinese tourists. Hawa wanajua angles za picha. 😂
And The Treasury (Al Khazneh) itself? A masterpiece carved directly into the sandstone cliff—no bricks, no joints. Originally a royal tomb, so grand people once believed it hid pharaohs’ treasure (hence the name). Standing before it feels unreal ,like the rock literally opened its heart to show off. True story. Everyone just stood there ,mesmerized.
There’s a curios shop, camels lounging like they pay rent, a coffee stall just facing the treasury and you think “Sasa nimefika.”
Petra laughs in rocks:
“No darling, hii ni intro tu.”
We kept going deeper, past facades, tombs, ruins and then climbed towards the High Place of Sacrifice. Those steps? Whew. But the views? Worth every heartbeat.
That’s when it made sense why they give a 3-day pass. One day barely scratches the surface.
Unfortunately time was running (and we were rushing to catch that train—kumbuka vile tulikuwa tunahepa? 😂😂).
So we didn’t manage Mt. Horeb or the Monastery. They’ll wait for us. We’re coming back.
At some point, with the desert stretching endlessly and ancient stones glowing around me, I genuinely felt like I had lived this life before. Petra awakens something old in you.
And Petra town?
Vibes for days.
A full-on tourist hub with 5-star hotels, cozy streets, cafés, and restaurants, giving Greece/Italy holiday aesthetic. Beautiful, warm, and built to host the world.
Petra isn’t just a place.
It’s an experience, a lesson, a time machine, and a blessing.
And trust me, when i say everyone deserves to feel that magic at least once.
