We are also marking one month since COP30 in Belém. During COP we put the spotlight on how Her City contributes to fighting climate change. We are applying and customising the Her City Toolbox in different settings, including in climate crisis contexts. This is just one of many ways the new Her City Toolbox can be used in a wider set of complex contexts.

We are particularly proud to annouce that the Portuguese version will be out shortly. Stay tuned to discover the new Her City Guide in Portuguese together with our UN-Habitat offices in Mozambique and Brazil.

🤝 We mark the World Soil Day by highlighting the work on proximity and the 15 minute city by our partners in Paris!

One of the largest Swedish newspapers Aftonbladet highlights our partner Chaire ETI and their work on urban sustainability.

As cities around the world are face rising temperatures, the research from Chaire ETI at IAE PARIS - SORBONNE BUSINESS SCHOOL — led by Carlos Moreno and Catherine Arod-Gall — is showing how cities can adapt with climate-smart and socially inclusive solutions.

From thousands of new trees to car-free streets, cooling public spaces, and the vision of the concept, Paris is transforming fast. And as Catherine Gall reminds us, what benefits the climate also benefits people — improving both physical and mental wellbeing.

We at Shared City Foundation are proud to partner with Chaire ETI in shaping the cities of tomorrow, where sustainability, social infrastructure, and everyday life come together.

Aftonbladets articles “Så ska parisarna möta extremvärmen” and ”Paris takplanteringar skyddar mot heta lägenheter” highlights why this work matters — not only for Paris, but for cities everywhere preparing for the realities of extreme heat.

The Mozambique team is participating in the ‘Deep dive into Sustainable Human Settlements in Fragility Conflict Violence Contexts’ in Nairobi, co-hosted by the and . It targetsnational and local governments from prioritised countries, and we are proud to give a sneak peak of the new Her City Mozambique Guide.

In collaboration with UN-Habitat Mozambique ‘Gender-Inclusive Urban Transformation in Mozambique: Participatory Planning Guide for the Sustainable Integration of Internally Displaced People, builds on the Her City methodology and contextualises it for the context of internal displacement and urban recovery in Mozambique.

It offers a step-by-step framework to help municipalities, planners, and communities create inclusive and resilient urban environments. For example, in Pemba’s Mahate and Muxara aneighbourhoods, displaced and host communities co-designed solutions for safer public spaces, improved infrastructure, and stronger social cohesion, showing how the toolbox can be applied in crisis-affected and rapidly urbanising settings.

As we prepare for the , this work reminds us that advancing gender equality is essential to building safer, more inclusive, and resilient cities for everyone. Together, we continue to advance sustainable and equitable urban futures with girls and women at the heart.

🚀 It’s World Cities Day and we are proud to launch the new Her City Guide!

The global observance of World Cities Day puts the spotlight on people-centered smart cities. We showcase how data-driven decision making and technology can be used to improve urban life and recover from current shocks and crises.

Her City Toolbox supports people-centred and inclusive planning across different city scales and urban contexts. Her City tools can work in any city, in any context.

Live from Bogota, Colombia we are proud to announce that the new Her City Guide will also be available in Spanish soon, providing our Latin American users with more digital tools.

The fourth edition of the Her City guide brings together a comprehensive framework for inclusive and participatory urban development. Building on the success of the original toolbox, we have integrated other existing methodologies that enhance participatory urban development in a wider range of contexts. The updated guide includes a wider range of guidance and tools for monitoring and evaluation; planning across urban scales; construction, management and maintenance; policy-making, mainstreaming strategies, and scaling; and inclusive urban development for humanitarian and emergency situations.

🏃‍♀️New strategic partnership for inclusive and active public spaces!

We celebrate International Day of the Girl this year by announcing our new Her City partnership with the Arwidsson foundation.

The 2025 IDG theme ‘The girl I am, the change I lead: Girls on the frontlines of crisis’ resonates well with this new partnership. Because this is exactly what we support through the Her City Toolbox - We showcase why girls changemakers are key to new solutions.

”If we want more people to move, meet and feel good, we must create environments where everyone are welcome. Good urban planning is a powerful public health policy tool and inclusive planning is not only fair but also economically wise. Through our new collaboration, we want to offer Swedish municipalities well-proven international knowledge and tools that make it easier to make sustainable decisions”, says Anna König Jerlmyr, CEO of the Arwidsson Foundation.

The partnership will particularly focus on active public spaces to increase public wellbeing - such as sports facilities - for and with girls in Swedish municipalities. The project will provide good practices but also learn from other initiatives in Europe and globally.

⭐️We are launching our new toolbox!

World Habitat Day 2025 is putting focus on urban solutions to crises. We kick-start a full month to engage the world on cities at the frontline of crises and solutions.

We’re live from Nairobi, where UN-Habitat has its global headquarters. We are excited to launch a new edition of the Her City Toolbox - a powerful resource for policymakers, urban planners, and community organizations working to transform cities through inclusive design.

By embedding inclusion at the core of urban development, we can co-create cities that are safer, more equal, and sustainable for everyone, everywhere.

Explore how the toolbox supports these goals and drives real change on the ground.
