Exciting News for Scientometrics!

Many journals now mandate machine-readable in-text citations and references, a crucial step forward in enhancing research visibility and discoverability.

As this trend gains momentum, I'm thrilled to offer assistance in navigating this evolution. Let's optimize the scientific landscape together!

As an editor and author, I've noticed a peculiar trend: reviewers seem to be as elusive as that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

One of my manuscripts has been hanging out in review limbo since 2020, and the Editor has become my pen pal, explaining the intricacies of finding not one, not two, but three elusive reviewers for my manuscript.

And, oh, the joy of being on the other side of the fence! When I wear my academic editor hat for PLoS One and reach out to potential reviewers, it feels like I'm trying to organize a cat parade.

Is open peer review the secret sauce? Should we throw caution to the wind and let the world witness the raw, unfiltered journey of manuscript development through Open peer review?

Or, perhaps, should journals dip into their coffers overflowing with Article Processing Costs and shower our valiant reviewers with gold coins?

Or should we recognize their efforts by encouraging them to register and track their review efforts, as provided for by ReviewerCredits.com.

Weโ€™re slowly entering the era of Public Peer Review.

Scientists are becoming more courageous on social media.

Before, we could never imagine that papers can go viral.

Now they can. And the bigger the claim, the wider itโ€™s discussed.

With this, weโ€™re moving away from โ€œOMG congratulate me, Iโ€™ve published in Natureโ€

to
โ€œI hope my study is rigorous enough to get through all this public scrutinyโ€.

Concept note of the Africa PID Alliance published in Zenodo https://lnkd.in/dB3ZtQAG

Persistent Identifiers ( ) are the pillars of an interoperable, persistent and reliable Open Research Infrastructure. This is the reason why a lot of countries/regions and organizations took the initiative to contribute to this network and help promote the use of PIDs through their academic and publishing ecosystems.
One of the innovations that the Africa PID Alliance will bring is a specific prefix for Africa that will provide;
๐Ÿ”ทOwnership to African researcher over their content,
๐Ÿ”ทPromotion of African content and output in terms of research data, works, publications, patents, etc..
๐Ÿ”ทPreservation of African indigenous knowledge and works and cultural heritage under a dedicated prefix.
This work is an effort towards embracing diversity, equity and inclusion, based on the different needs of the different communities as we know that different communities have different needs.
