EXERCISE the WONDER DRUG.

I was once told that if there was a drug as effective for as many conditions as exercise is, then it would be deemed as a wonder drug!

Research into resistance training alone has shown to:

- Reduce mortality by 20% from any cause
- Reduce cancer mortality by 43%
- Reduce mortality by 81% after hip fracture
- Reduce the risk of going into a nursing home after hip fracture by 84%
- Improve cognitive function/memory
- Increase bone strength in post menopausal women
- Manage blood sugar levels in type II diabetes
- Counteract the side effects of prostate CA treatment for men.
- Improve sleep
- Improve depression
- Improve the recovery from heart attacks

So how much exercise and how hard?

At least 2-3 days per week at a moderate to hard level. Moderate being 5-6/10, hard being 7-8/10, 10 as your maximal effort.

Benefits Walking as an Exercise:

Brisk Walking Is Moderate-Intensity Aerobic Exercise

Walking at a brisk pace that raises your heart rate into the moderate-intensity zone is recommended for the benefits of "real exercise" for the cardiovascular system and to reduce health risks.

A brisk pace is one where you are breathing harder than normal—you can talk, but you can't sing. If you take your pulse, it should be between 50 percent and 70 percent of your maximum heart rate. Walk at least 10 minutes in this zone for it to count as a moderate-intensity exercise session. You should aim for a minimum of 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per day, five days per week, which can be broken up into sessions of at least 10 minutes at a time.

Try a 20-minute brisk walking workout:

Start at an easy pace for one to three minutes to warm up.Pick up the pace to your target heart rate or perceived exertion for 20 minutes.End with one to three minutes at an easy pace for a cool down..

More than one third of Rheumatoid arthritis sufferers require painkilling drugs following anti-rheumatic therapy.

A new study published in the Pain Practice journal suggests that radial ESWT may offer an additional, novel approach to controlling the pain associated with anti-rheumatic therapy.

In this small pilot study as many as 80% of participants were able to stop the use of painkillers, while the remaining 20% decreased their dosage

Are you an athlete dealing with an injury that is preventing you from performing?

A recent review in Current Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Reports explored the use of ESWT in the treatment of lower limb sports injuries including plantar fasciitis, shin splints and tendonopathies, and found it to be beneficial.

"Compared with injections or surgical interventions, athletes undergoing ESWT often are able to continue sports participation with fewer limitations in activity during treatment."

So if your injury is limiting your training but you are unable to take the time off required for surgical intervention,ESWT may offer a non-invasive alternative that allows you to remain active during treatment or return to activity sooner.
