The Fire Safety and Burns Awareness Week 2023 with the theme ‘Moto rafiki mwaminifu, adui hatari’ came to a close last week Friday with a fire drill at Electricity House, Nairobi, and a walk from Nairobi CBD that culminated at KNH. Various stakeholders then met for the closing ceremony held at the Administration Block grass lawn area.
Director Surgical Services Dr. Kennedy Ondede, the Chief Guest at the event, said the Hospital was committed to increasing capacity through collaboration with like-minded partners. “The KNH management and more so the CEO is committed to increasing capacity through collaborations like the one we are witnessing today. I wish to also call upon regulatory authorities to ensure that access roads especially in the slums are available to ensure lives are saved whenever fire accidents occur,” he said.
Bramwell Simiyu, Chief Officer Disaster Management & Coordination, Nairobi County said the devolved unit was determined to control incidents of fire outbreaks. “As a county, we should not be judged by how many fires we have managed to contain, but by the number of fire accidents that we have prevented,” he said while representing the Nairobi County Governor, Johnson Sakaja, CBS.
