🧠 BREAST SIZE DOESN’T DEFINE BREASTFEEDING SUCCESS!

During our hands-on breastfeeding education session, we use models of different breast sizes to train healthcare workers and mothers — because it’s not the size that matters, it’s the support, technique, and frequency that count!

Let’s bust some common myths:
❌ Myth: Bigger breasts produce more milk
✅ Fact: Milk production depends on demand and glandular tissue — not breast size!

❌ Myth: Small breasts can’t make enough milk
✅ Fact: Breastfeeding success is possible for all sizes — good latch and regular feeding are key.

👩🏾‍⚕️ At the Kenya Association for Breastfeeding, we’re on a mission to empower mothers with science-based knowledge, not stigma or misinformation.

Let’s support every mother, every drop, every baby.

✨ The Power of a Good Latch ✨

For new moms, one of the most important foundations of successful breastfeeding is a good latch. A deep, effective latch helps your baby get enough milk, protects your ni***es from pain, and supports your milk supply.

✅ Signs of a good latch:
1:Baby’s mouth is wide open,
2:lips flanged out (like fish lips)
3:Chin touches the breast,
4:nose is clear
5:More of the ar**la visible above baby’s lip than below
6:You hear swallowing, not clicking sounds
7:Feeding feels comfortable, not painful

📌 Did you know? Research shows that poor latch is the leading cause of sore ni***es and low milk transfer in the first weeks. With proper guidance, this can be corrected and breastfeeding can become easier and more enjoyable for both mom and baby.

💡 If you’re a new mom struggling with latch, remember you are not alone. Support makes the journey smoother.

Breastfeeding after a vaginal birth offers incredible benefits for both you and your baby.

🌱 Start breastfeeding within the first hour — this ‘golden hour’ is crucial for initiating breastfeeding, enhancing bonding, and reducing neonatal risk. Early skin-to-skin contact helps your baby latch naturally and strengthens your milk supply. 🤱🏽

Keep baby close by rooming-in and breastfeeding on demand. This approach supports your baby’s health and helps regulate their feeding cues, while also boosting your confidence in those early days. 🌟

Exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months is backed by science to protect against infections, allergies, and chronic conditions. It’s also a powerful tool for your postpartum recovery—helping with uterine involution and reducing bleeding.

Support and education from lactation consultants, makes all the difference, ensuring you and your baby get the best start. 👶🏼💪🏽 Remember, every small step counts in this journey.

Breastfeeding after a cesarean birth ✨

Recovering from surgery while caring for your newborn can feel overwhelming, but breastfeeding is still very possible and it can be a beautiful way to bond, heal, and give your baby the very best start.

💡 What helps:
✔️ Skin-to-skin contact right after birth (even in the operating room or recovery) encourages bonding, keeps baby warm, and helps milk flow start sooner.
✔️ Rooming-in (keeping your baby with you as much as possible) makes it easier to respond to feeding cues and helps both of you rest better.
✔️ Comfortable positions like the football hold or side-lying can protect your incision while helping baby latch well.
✔️ Support systems matter — ask your care team, family, or a lactation counselor for help as you heal.

Remember: every feed is a step toward recovery and connection. Your journey may look different, but your milk is uniquely yours — something no one else can give your baby.

Many women want to breastfeed longer — but often face challenges beyond their control.

To truly support mothers, we must create environments that make breastfeeding easier and more sustainable, not harder.

Here’s what helps:
✅ Trained breastfeeding support during pregnancy & early motherhood
✅ Paid time off for breastfeeding or expressing milk at work
✅ Involved, supportive partners and families
✅ Positive health messaging & informed choices
✅ Paternity leave and community investment
✅ Protection from pressure or marketing that creates doubt

🤍 This is not about judging feeding choices — it’s about making sure every mother has the right support to breastfeed for as long as she wants.

Let’s make breastfeeding a supported option, not a struggle.

📌 Save, share, and tag someone who needs to see this.
