Dream of a child International Organization started its initiative in Bungoma district in 2009, as a response and solution to the plight of the increasing number of vulnerable children. We offer them food, clothing, counseling and love. Since then, Dream of a child has steadily grown, both in size and quality, moving from the individual initiative to an officially registered non-governmental organization in 2010. We are a Christian Organization and currently cater for about 115 children some in Bungoma, Kawangware, kibera and a rehabilitation centre at Woodley(Joseph Kangethe rehabilitation centre for boys only). Its services have become more professional, more focused yet all-inclusive, offering a comprehensive and complete mix of activities, which aims at giving the child a dignified existence while growing up, as well as a fair perspective of life. After a brain storming session the outcome of this has been that Dream of a child should build on its gained expertise and network , which now particularly includes fund raising for school fees, Donation of books and clothing, school feeding programme where children in the urban slums are encouraged to go to school, access to medical facilities. Our criteria includes abandoned, orphaned (through HIV/Aids or otherwise) and neglected babies, as well as those for whom parental care has temporarily become void (mothers imprisoned, street mothers in rehabilitation). Meanwhile, the care and reintegration activities of in-house former CNCPs (Children in Need of Care and Protection) obviously remain an active objective as well, and will be improved upon, including education, health, rehabilitation and reintegration into society. Dream of a child is facing financial challenges due to the growing number of OVC’s (Orphans and vulnerable children) in the urban slums. We have enjoyed some partnerships with Individuals, few corporate which includes Chloride Exide and we are very thankful. We anticipate a positive response, on behalf of the children society as a whole -as ultimate beneficiaries-, to thank all of those who show a tangible interest. At the same time, Dream of a child would like to wholeheartedly thank Chloride Exide for having shown interest and contributed towards its success over the past one year.
