This week, over 18,000 delegates from over 80 countries converged in Nairobi Kenya to connect, learn, and share best practices and innovations focused on improving maternal and newborn care, and ultimately reducing global mortality.

Christian Health Association of Kenya (CHAK) was proud to contribute to these important conversations by showcasing impactful solutions, including:
- Use of Heat-stable carbetocin
- Use of calibrated drapes for objective measurement of blood loss in postpartum hemorrhage
- Implementation of the EMOTIVE bundle

CHAK through its RMNCAH programme has supported over 100 member facilities to implement these innovations. Between July 2025 and February 2026, calibrated drapes and heat stable carbetocin were utilised in over 8500 deliveries in the supported health facilities and over 400 cases of Post Partum Haemorrhage (PPH) averted by use of the bundled approach of post partum haemorrhage management.

Approximately 200 neonates with respiratory distress were supported with the CPAP machine.

We were delighted to host delegates from 16 African countries at Jumuia Hospital Huruma, one of CHAK’s member health facilities. The visit was inspiring and highlighted the power of collaboration in strengthening health systems.

Together, we move closer to a future where every mother and newborn has access to quality care.

CHAK and the Laikipia County Health Management Team, led by the CECM for Health Services, Mr Albert Taiti, have signed an MOU to strengthen collaboration through a joint engagement under the GitLab Eye Health and Livelihood Program. This partnership reflects Christian Health Association of Kenya (CHAK)'s broader vision: to work hand in hand with County governments in building systems, expanding access to essential health services, and improving the quality of life for communities across Kenya.
During our engagement, we aligned on a shared roadmap that includes a joint CHAK–County Eye Health management Team coordination committee and a commitment to data driven outcomes and cost effectiveness modelling as well as open partnerships on other programs within CHAK.
We deeply appreciate the Laikipia County CECM Health and the entire County Health Management Team for their leadership, openness, and vision for elevating eye health services. Their support sets Laikipia as a model county for innovative, impactful health partnerships.
Together, we are paving the way for:
• Increased access to presbyopia screening and reading glasses
• Better productivity and improved livelihoods for those in visually intensive occupation
• A scalable model of county engagement that can be replicated nationwide
A special thank you to our partners RestoringVision, GitLab Foundation, and ACHAP Secretariat for powering this important work.
CHAK remains committed to expanding meaningful county partnerships that transform health outcomes and build healthier, more empowered communities.

Day 2 at the in Mombasa was all about integration in action.
The CHAK team led the conversation with impactful presentations on integrating HIV prevention and treatment, TB, NCDs, and mental health, demonstrating how coordinated care can transform health outcomes. Our other presentations were on the themes of building empowered, resilient communities and health workforce strengthening.
The momentum didn’t stop there. Six CHAK-supported County and Faith-Based health facilities shared poster presentations, documenting real-world lessons and from the frontlines of implementation.
From policy to practice, the message was clear: integration works, and thrive when systems work together.
This is the future of healthcare - connected, people-centered, and built for sustainability.

At the taking place in Mombasa, Dr Wekesa Barasa, CHAK General Secretary & CEO, shared a powerful message on the future of sustainable health services.

He used the imagery of tandem nursing/breastfeeding to illustrate how Kenya must nurture two models at the same time: sustaining proven donor-supported programmes while strengthening the Government-to-Government approach as global funding declines, especially for HIV/AIDS services. Dr. Barasa who spoke during a panel discussion on Governance demonstrated the critical role that Faith-Based Facilities who serve close to 40 per cent of Kenyans with health services have in complementing Government efforts towards achieving Universal Health Coverage.

The summit was officially opened by Health Cabinet Secretary Hon Aden Duale and attended by other leaders including Mombasa Governor Hon Abdulswamad Nassir.

At the summit this year, CHAK is showcasing two key innovations driving sustainability in HIV care - CMaT and Imara Care - which are designed to strengthen health systems for continuity and sustainability of HIV services.

Staff from the CHAK Institute of Capacity Development (CICD) made major strides in digital learning this week.

At the CHAK offices in Nairobi, the team was trained by ECHO Africa on the ECHO online platform, gaining the skills needed to roll out virtual capacity-building programs for CHAK Member Health Units (MHUs) and partners in governance, policy, and best practices.

Through the CHAK–ECHO collaboration, teleECHO technology and digital learning platforms will power continuous learning, stronger knowledge sharing, and improved healthcare outcomes across the CHAK network.
