KNH Joins Kenya Society of Physiotherapists in Celebrating World Physiotherapy Day at JKUAT
The Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) multidisciplinary team joined the Kenya Society of Physiotherapists (KSP) in commemorating World Physiotherapy Day at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
The vibrant celebration kicked off with a walk from the JKUAT campus to Juja town and back before proceeding to the main event at the university auditorium.
This year’s theme, "Healthy Ageing: The Role of Physiotherapy in Preventing Falls and Frailty," highlighted the critical role physiotherapy plays in promoting the well-being of adults.
Each speaker emphasized the shared responsibility of individuals, communities and healthcare providers in supporting the ageing population.
“We need to take care of the ageing population by offering quality primary healthcare,” said Mr. Henry Opondo, President of the Kenya Society of Physiotherapists.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Reuben Thuo, Principal, College of Health Sciences at JKUAT emphasized the importance of sustained mentorship programs for emerging physiotherapists. He also commended the Ministry of Health for its ongoing support in advancing rehabilitative services across the country.
Later in the program, Ms. Philomena Minoo, Senior Physiotherapist at KNH participated in a panel discussion with newly trained physiotherapists. Together, they explored the key components of healthy ageing; physical, mental and social well-being and shared insights on how physiotherapists can help older adults maintain independence and quality of life.
