Fit for Life Africa

Fit for Life Africa Fit for Life Africa, is an organization that mentors adolescents.

Fit for Life Africa was founded in 2014 in Kenya as a grassroots organization aimed at making adolescents and youth realize their full potential enabling them to develop and grow as responsive, proactive and all-round global citizens. This is in line with United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs), The Global Health Strategy (Every Woman Every Child) and Africa Union's Agenda 2063. The Fit for Life, Fit for Work model integrates life-skills training, sexual and reproductive health information, work-read and support with placements in employment. Due to the high unemployment rates in young people in Kenya, especially for those from poor communities, it is understandable that their immediate need for subsistence would take much higher priority for youth than concerns about their sexual and reproductive health and rights, and protecting themselves from STIs. The high HIV prevalence, particularly among the economically active population is a major challenge to national development which must be addressed. The high unemployment is not only pervasive, but also lead to permanent school dropout, vicious poverty and crime cycle, teen pregnancy and illiteracy.

"As you will be aware the United Nations system and various civil society coalitions have launched discussions which aim to both accelerate progress to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015 as well as to begin to map the path to a post-2015 development agenda.

The global campaign, for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals provides the greatest opportunity to build synergy and galvanize the efforts of the peoples of the world and the youth in particular to create a new dispensation free from poverty and deprivation. As such, we recognize the need for dialogue and engagement amongst young people, for critical debate and analysis on the MDGs, and the post 2015 discussion and mobilize partners for action.

From Dr. Day "I have just returned from the 3rd ICT4Development conference in Kibugat, Kenya. At the close of the conference the local Kalenjin women got up and sang a song of thanks (Kongoi) to everyone who contributed to bringing what was a very successful and thought provoking conference to Kibugat.

I have done a quick and dirty edit job on the filmed proceedings, so to those of you who kindly responded to my request for help……this one is for you http://communitymedia-arts.brighton.ac.uk/Kibugat%20women%20sing%20Kongoi%20to%20close%203rd%20ICT4Development%20conference.wmv/view

Once we have completed building the video platform on my server, I will post the videos of the conference sessions and share the URL to those who are interested.

Many thanks again for your generosity"

Spontaneous song of thanks by the Kalenjin women from Kibugat village. The song was a thankyou to everyone who contributed to bringing the 3rd International ICT4Development conference.
