Kirinyaga County has launched a digitalization program to enhance healthcare efficiency and accessibility. Governor Ann Waiguru welcomed a delegation from the Ministry of Health, led by PS Harry Kimtai, and other senior officials, reaffirming the county’s leadership in adopting the Social Health Authority (SHA) system.

PS Kimtai commended Kirinyaga for fully rolling out SHA and pledged national support to improve service delivery and expand healthcare benefits.

Waziri Moses Kuria highlighted that 75% of the KES 27 million allocated for outpatient primary healthcare in January and February 2025 was directed to public facilities, ensuring equitable resource distribution.

Governor Waiguru emphasized the county’s commitment to digitizing all 72 healthcare facilities and ensuring full population registration under SHA, prioritizing support for indigent households. The initiative positions Kirinyaga as a leader in Kenya’s healthcare digital transformation.

The Ministry of Health is holding an engagement meeting on the Social Health Authority (SHA) in Mombasa County, bringing together county teams and hospital administrators to advance the implementation of Taifa Care.
Held at the Governor’s Office, the session is led by Mr. Harry Kimtai, Principal Secretary of the State Department of Medical Services, alongside Mombasa Governor H.E. Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir and Hon. Moses Kuria, Senior Advisor, Council of Economic Advisors, State House. Also in attendance are Mr. Daniel Mwai, Dr. Thuranira Kaugiria both advisors, Acting CEO of the Digital Health Agency, Anthony Lenaiyara, and Acting CEO of SHA, Robert Ingasira.
The engagement focuses on the Primary Health Care Payment Model, SHA benefits packages, digitization of healthcare services, and insights from Mombasa County’s pilot program. This initiative aims to ensure the seamless rollout of Taifa Care, providing affordable healthcare for all residents in line with Universal Health Coverage (UHC)—ensuring no one is left behind.
