Kenya National Commision on Human Rights Our Mandate is to act as a watch dog over the government in the are of human rights and provide leadership in moving the country towards a human rights state.

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) is an autonomous National Human Rights Institution first established by a Kenyan Act of Parliament in 2002. KNCHR became operational in July 2003. Following the promulgation of the new Constitution of Kenya on August 27, 2010, and the passing of the KNCHR Act 2011, the Commission was transformed into a constitutional body. Our Vision

The Government of Kenya is undertaking a comprehensive review of the National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights (NAP-BHR) to strengthen its alignment with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs).
The next phase of the NAP requires up-to-date, evidence-based thematic assessments across five core priority areas that reflect Kenya’s human rights and economic governance priorities.
To support this review, the Government seeks to commission five specialised consultants (individuals or organisations) to undertake thematic research under the following lots:
1. Lot 1: Land and Natural Resources
2. Lot 2: Environment & Climate
3. Lot 3: Labour Rights
4. Lot 4: Technology
5. Lot 5: State–Business Nexus
Applicants may only apply for one lot; each lot will be evaluated and contracted independently. The research is funded by the Government of Sweden in Kenya through the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR). Applications should be submitted electronically to:

​As the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) concludes the current phase of complaint-taking for gross human rights violations, including during maandamano, KNCHR reminds the public that today is the deadline for the initial list of victims.
​Submissions received by today will be included in the Commission’s report and recommendations to the Government, to be submitted within 60 days of the March 6, 2026, Gazette Notice. Please note that reparations are a continuous process; the Commission remains committed to documenting all victims in ongoing phases.

In our commitment to promoting and protecting of human rights, our staff are working today in our Head Office and all regional offices countrywide.

You are welcome for enquiries and to report any human rights violations including violations during demonstrations.

Remember today is the deadline for victims of human rights violations who wish to be considered in this first list of reparations that should be submitted in 60 days from 6th March 2026.

Reparations is a continuous process, and this deadline only applies to those who wish to be included in the initial list of victims that will accompany KNCHR’s first report and recommendations to the Government.

KNCHR continues to engage different stakeholders on the development of the Reparations Framework.

With tomorrow as the deadline for victims of human rights violations who wish to be considered in this first list of reparations, members of the public are encouraged to visit our Head Office and regional offices to report their cases.

Despite tomorrow being a Good Friday public holiday, KNCHR offices will remain open at Headquarters and across the country to receive reports and serve the public.

Reparations are a continuous process, and this deadline only applies to those who wish to be included in the initial list of victims that will accompany KNCHR’s first report and recommendations to the Government.

PRESS STATEMENT
KNCHR wishes to update the public of progress made so far towards the development of the Framework for Compensation and Reparations to Victims of Human Rights Violations.
The Commission has since developed a roadmap and prepared a working document that is guiding consultations with various stakeholders including victims and survivors.
So far, KNCHR has compiled a list of 1,224 victims of human rights violations which is undergoing verification in line with the eligibility criteria.
The Commission shall remain open on Friday 3rd April despite being a public holiday to give room to Kenyans who may want to present their reports at its Head Office or Regional Offices.
