FGM is a practice overtaken by time & the law yet it still remains a debate that communities are adamant to engage in. KNCHR Commissioner Dr. Dennis Wamalwa was in Garrisa today leading a conversation with law enforcement officers on their role in responding to the outlawed practice.

The meeting in Garrisa also served as a validation forum where the officers gave their input on an FGM e learning module for law enforcement officers prior to its roll out for its effectiveness.

KNCHR Chairperson, Ms. Claris Ogangah, met with Kenyan human rights defenders Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo upon their return to Kenya after release from Uganda. KNCHR encourages East African governments to protect human rights defenders by strengthening legal frameworks and support systems to protect citizens from abductions and enforced disappearances in the region.

Human rights defenders face persistent threats, intimidation and risks to their safety. KNCHR emphasizes the critical need to create and maintain safe environments where defenders can carry out their legitimate work without fear. Legitimate human rights work must never be criminalized.
