KNCHR conducted a capacity building session for journalists in Garissa by equipping them with skills in sensitive and ethical human rights reporting. The training highlighted how the media can responsibly highlight stories on refugee rights, enforced disappearances, human trafficking and other critical issues affecting vulnerable communities in North Eastern Kenya.

Journalists are key in shaping informed public discourse and amplifying voices without stigma or re-traumatization. Through the project, KNCHR reaffirms its commitment to strengthening media freedom, promoting accurate reporting, and advancing the protection of human rights for all

KNCHR joined stakeholders in Garissa for the official launch of the Alternative Justice Systems (AJS) Suites, graced by the Chief Justice, Hon. Martha Koome, and the Governor of Garissa County, H.E. Nadhif Jama.

As a member of the Court Users Committee (CUC), KNCHR views the AJS Suites as a milestone in promoting inclusive, culturally sensitive, and accessible justice for all, especially marginalized groups. Rooted in the community’s belief in maslah (amicable dispute resolution), AJS complements the formal justice system while safeguarding human rights.

As we commemorate the International Day of the Victims of today, enforced disappearances remain a painful reality in Kenya.
KNCHR stands in solidarity, with families still searching for their loved ones. KNCHR condemns these grave human rights violations that erode public trust & undermine constitutional freedoms.
KNCHR calls on State agencies to investigate all reported cases, hold perpetrators accountable & ensure no person is subjected to secret detention or made to vanish without trace.

Today, we mark 15 years since the promulgation of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 – a transformative moment in our nation’s history.

KNCHR appreciates these milestones and continues to stand firm in promoting, protecting and monitoring the realization of the rights and freedoms guaranteed in our Constitution.

As we celebrate this milestone, we also recognize that many Kenyans still feel they have not fully enjoyed the fruits of the Constitution. Moving forward, we must commit to its faithful implementation, ensure equitable service delivery, strengthen institutions, and safeguard the rights and dignity of all. Only then can we truly realize the promise of the Constitution, 2010.
