A (not so) kind reminder‼️

The fact that today is International Women’s day feels completely ironic given what happened to the young lady yesterday.

To be attacked so brutally…by multiple men….in broad daylight….because of a road accident. The freedom with which these men abused her while she screamed in terror is shocking, horrific and almost unbelievable.

How do we still find ourselves here❓
A society that speaks of progress but in reality remains stuck in such dark ways.

I couldn’t watch the video because once I see it, I cannot unsee it.
My heart is broken 💔for her. But we MUST stand with her.

Our hormones do not do well with stressors and unfortunately, we very often are unaware of the types of things that are actually considered stressors by our bodies.

Did you know that being bloated or gassy are signs of poor gut health? And that an unhealthy gut is a stressor to your body?

Or that lack of movement and being sedentary makes your hormones unhappy?

Or that poor sleep can lead to hormone dysregulation?

Your gut health matters!! 📣

Did you know that most lifestyle diseases are influenced by poor gut health? Numerous studies have demonstrated links between gut health and the immune system, autoimmune diseases, cancer, endocrine disorders, skin conditions and even mental health.

Many symptoms we experience are actually our body’s way of signaling that something is off with our gut. These symptoms may be obvious eg. stomach discomfort or unwanted weight changes, and others are less obvious in relation to the gut e.g. skin issues or sleep disturbances.

One thing I always do with my clients is to take a deep dive into their health & lifestyle so as to identify the root cause of their symptoms as we don’t want to pursue removal of symptoms such as improving skin health or weight loss without understanding what the root cause is 😅.

I sprained my shoulder almost a year ago and it’s been a long slow road of mobility and strength work to get it back to (almost) full functionality 💪🏽

Exercise is such a huge part of my self care and I am really pleased to be able to lift reasonable weights again ☺️

It also is a neuro toxin, affecting your brain moreso as you get older.

Which is why a lot of people start to feel that their tolerance is quite ‘what it used to be’ as they get into their 40s, 50s and beyond.
A contributing factor to this, is that your liver isn’t as young as it used to be hence it is less efficient at handling the toxicity.

For my fellow women, this is particular important for us to pay attention to as we cannot handle the same toxicity levels as men. Further more, the toxins have a larger impact on our metabolic health and put us at an increased risk for breast cancer (about 16% increases risk).

So…I am not asking you to stop with the alcohol….BUT, I am encouraging you to be mindful of it. Approach your alcohol with wisdom….knowing that it is not your friend 😅
And knowing that it is so much easier maintain your health; rather than lose it and then have to work on getting it back.

What an amazing time spent with this gifted human who is a leader, a coach, a comedian, a therapist, all-round (slightly crazy) genius ….and so much more…all rolled into one! 😊🌸

Thank you for having me on your podcast . Talking about Health & Wellness especially in this pandemic season is a topic that is particularly close to my heart and chatting with you in such an authentic heart-to-heart way made it all the more special.

Listen to your gut!

Why?? Because it often is providing key insights to what’s going on in your body. Many of these symptoms.....common as they might be.....are precursors to lifestyle diseases and autoimmune conditions.
And nobody wants that!!!

With over 70% of our immune system being housed in our gut, an unhealthy gut directly contributes to a greater risk of disease AND even negatively affects our mental health.

GERD, reflux & acidity are also huge indicators of an unhealthy gut 😕

So listen to your gut; support it with better nutrition & lifestyle habits; and your body will thank you in the long-run.
