Dr Sylvia Mbugua, a Neurologist based at the Aga Khan Hospital demystified Stroke on .

She emphasised the FAST acronym (Face, Arms, Speech, Time) as a helpful tool to remember the signs of a stroke and to act quickly when someone is experiencing one. Recognizing the signs of a stroke and calling for help immediately can significantly improve outcomes. 

FAST stands for:

F - Face drooping: One side of the face may droop or be numb when asked to smile. 

A - Arm weakness: One arm may be weak or numb, and when raised, it may drift downward. 

S - Speech difficulty: The person may have slurred speech or trouble speaking, or they may have difficulty understanding what you are saying. 

T - Time to call 911: If you observe any of these signs, call emergency services (911 or your local equivalent) immediately. Time is critical in stroke treatment, and even if the symptoms go away, it's important to seek medical attention.
