💜 World Su***de Prevention Day 2025 🩵

As a mental health practitioner, I am reminded that su***de is often not about wanting life to end, but about wanting unbearable pain to stop. Today, we honor every life touched by su***de—those we have lost, those struggling, those supporting loved ones, and those who have found the strength to keep going.

🌍 Su***de prevention is not built only in moments of crisis, but in everyday acts of compassion:
🩵 Reach out with kindness, not judgment
💜 Listen deeply, more than you speak
🩵 Encourage professional support where possible
💜 Remind yourself and others that seeking help is an act of courage

Every conversation, every act of care, can nurture hope. Together, we can create communities where no one feels invisible in their pain.

🏫 This year, we also highlight the importance of integrating mental health into schools. Youth su***de is a pressing public health emergency, and schools are vital spaces for prevention, early identification, and intervention.

✨ Key Insights for Schools & Communities:
🔵 Early detection saves lives – equipping teachers with training and crisis protocols enables timely support.
🟢 School-based programs work – evidence-based interventions like counseling and social-emotional learning reduce suicidal ideation.
🟡 Peer & family engagement – a strong safety net is built when families and peers are involved.
🟣 Policy integration – standardized policies and funding ensure sustainable mental health support.
🟠 Holistic approach – combining prevention, intervention, and education fosters resilience and well-being.

💡 Reflection for all of us:
1️⃣ How can schools ensure that mental health resources reach even marginalized students?
2️⃣ What strategies can policymakers adopt to sustain programs beyond crisis moments?

🩵 Let’s remember: you are not alone, and help is always within reach.
Together, we can build a culture of empathy, resilience, and hope.

✨ Eldoret, the City of Champions, did not disappoint! ✨

The past three days we had the privilege of attending the 17th Annual Scientific Conference of the Kenya Psychiatric Association (KPA). We proudly showcased our work at Nueva Esperanza Treatment & Rehabilitation Centre and Empower Her Recovery Centre, creating a space to share our passion and commitment to mental health and addiction recovery. 💚💜

From engaging conversations with consultant psychiatrists, thought leaders, and prayer warriors in the field of mental health and rehabilitation, to networking with pharmaceutical companies, referral agencies, hospitals, NACADA, MOH, and many more partners — the connections have been invaluable.

These interactions remind us why collaboration and partnership are at the heart of what we do: healing, hope, and recovery are collective missions.

We came, we saw, we conquered — and left Eldoret more inspired than ever! 🙌

Stay tuned for highlights of the amazing people who stopped by our booth and the key moments we’ll cherish. 💫

🌸✨ Lessons from Anne Mathu’s 21 Years of Sobriety ✨🌸

This weekend , we celebrated Ann Mathu – 21 years sober, bold, and unapologetically inspiring. Today, we reflect on the timeless lessons her recovery journey teaches us:

1️⃣ One Day at a Time – Sobriety is not a sprint but a daily choice, built moment by moment.

2️⃣ Own Your Story – Healing begins when we stop hiding and boldly share our truth.

3️⃣ Service is Strength – Living Step 12, Anne reminds us that recovery grows when we pass it on.

4️⃣ Recovery is Power – It is not just about abstinence, but rebuilding, thriving, and breaking barriers.

5️⃣ Hope is Contagious – When one woman rises, she lights the path for many more.

Anne’s life is proof that recovery is not just survival, it is transformation. 💪🏽💜

✨ What lesson from Anne’s journey speaks to YOU most? Share below 👇🏽 – let’s keep the conversation alive!

🔥 21 Years Sober. Unstoppable. Unapologetic. Unafraid. 🔥

Today we celebrate Ann Mathu – a woman of courage, a warrior in recovery, and a bold voice of hope.

For 21 years of uninterrupted sobriety, Anne has proven that recovery is not only possible – it is powerful. 🙌🏽

As NACADA Vice Chair, an astute recovery coach, and a fearless advocate, Anne has turned her story into a lifeline for others. She is unafraid to share her journey, breaking stigma and inspiring both women & men everywhere to rise, heal, and reclaim their lives.

Living by Step 12 – Pass It On, Anne embodies what recovery truly means: service, strength, and shining the light for others still in the darkness. 🌟

Anne, you are more than a role model. You are a movement. A beacon of hope. A living testimony that WE DO RECOVER. 💜 We celebrate You ! Keep inspiring us ! Keep spreading the message of recovery, second chances , rebuilding , rebirth and reclaim.

🌳 THE TREE OF ADDICTIONS 🌳

Addiction is often misunderstood as simply a bad habit or a lack of willpower. In truth, it is much deeper. Just like a tree, every addiction has roots, branches, and soil that sustain it.

🍂 THE BRANCHES
What we usually see are the “branches” of addiction — alcohol, drugs, gambling, social media, shopping, food, gaming, work, s*x, or codependency. These are the visible struggles, but they are only symptoms of something deeper.

🌱 THE ROOTS
Every branch grows from hidden roots. These may include:
🎯Childhood abuse or neglect
🎯Fear and anxiety
🎯Anger and unresolved pain
🎯Shame and guilt
🎯Abandonment and loneliness
🎯Trauma or difficult life events
🎯Harmful social environments

The same addiction can grow from different roots in different people. Unless these roots are understood and healed, the branches will keep reappearing in new forms.

🪨 THE SOIL

Addictions thrive in “fertile soil” created by painful life experiences, dysfunctional family systems, or environments that normalize harmful coping mechanisms. This soil allows roots of fear, shame, and trauma to spread, making recovery difficult unless addressed holistically.

✨ THE SOLUTION

Trimming the branches of addiction isn’t enough. Recovery requires healing the roots and transforming the soil. At Nueva Esperanza Treatment and Wellness Centre and Empower Her Recovery Centre- The SHE Recovers Centre , we focus on helping individuals dig deep, uncover the hidden roots of addiction, and create new, healthy soil where healing, hope, and resilience can grow. 💛

👉 Recovery is more than stopping a behavior — it’s a journey of healing from the inside out.

Today at Empower Her 💜

We had the profound honour of hosting Mary Ndung’u, popularly known as Wanja Namrod. Her story, which many may have seen on YouTube, is one of raw pain, unshakeable courage, and remarkable transformation.

👉 Watch her story here : https://youtu.be/QCUTHLE1STE?si=fyuT7bkjb4jYMais

After watching her testimony, we reached out and invited her to visit our women-only rehab in Kwamaiko, Githunguri. Her presence today lit up our centre – not because she sugarcoated anything, but because she spoke truth. Hard truths. Lived truths. Healing truths.

From abandonment and trauma to addiction and shame, her journey mirrors the struggles that many of our ladies face. And in her voice, they heard possibility. In her presence, they felt seen.

Thank you, Wanja, for showing up for us. For sharing your scars with dignity. For reminding us that no story is too broken for healing.

Namrod

💪🏾🏃🏾‍♀️ We showed up strong for women! 💕

Today, Empower Her Recovery Centre proudly participated in the Inaugural Nairobi Women’s Marathon, organized by the phenomenal Supa Mamas. Our team laced up not just for fitness — but for purpose and community!

We also hosted a vibrant Empower Her booth, where we connected with participants from all walks of life. We were thrilled by the interest in our work — and even more excited to receive invitations to give health talks in corporate spaces. 🙌🏾

💬 We also networked with organizations championing:

🔆Teen pregnancy prevention
🔆Breastfeeding awareness
🔆Cancer survivorship
🔆Holistic wellness for women and families

✨ And a personal highlight — I got to meet the bold and inspiring Hon. Millie Odhiambo, and walked away with a signed copy of her powerful book “Rig or Be Rigged?” 📚💥

We left re-energized and affirmed: Recovery is possible. Women’s voices matter. Community is everything.

Thank you to Supa Mamas and all the organizers and supporters who made today unforgettable!
