I was raised by Kikuyu single mum who died when I was 19 and when we were to register for ID in school you are supposed to take a letter from the chief or ID for your father or mother.Burale you need to understand that as an 18 year old you do not have a choice of which ID will be given and many single mum may choose to give you their ID as she may not want to disclose to you who your father is and could be he is not available in your life either by choice or he ran away and disowned you but mother's know better and you don't bite the hand that feeds you.The challenge is to men to own and raise their children or our ID registration to change from male chauvinistic identification or the society to accommodate the matriarchal Kikuyu structure that was implemented during colonial period where many Kikuyu father's and grandfather's were displaced from there native homes to work for colonial farms and mother's and grandma's were left to raise children alone and this destroyed Kikuyu culture and spirituality.During Mau Mau more father's and grandfather's were killed not to return to their homes which led to more kids being born and raised by home guards who mothers could not openly declare were your father's.This was followed by many Kikuyu after independence to move to urban centers and coffee farms to work away from their homes and only come during weekends thus weakened the father's attachment and identification which to date many sons didn't not have firm or positive relationship with their fathers and when they grow up they empower their mothers and the cycle continues which has made Kikuyu mother's and daughters grow knowing a male figure is all about financial provisions but very little parental involvement thus ID names are just for official purposes but they carry stigmatization by other tribes who patriarchal structures were not destroyed during colonization and we know the reason why but this should not be so because we have son growing with both parents but are raised wrongly and we have us who grew without father figure but we are productive in our own ways and we are successful in our own small ways and we do not have to be like General Ogolla's son.

Those tribes prideful about male name are just chauvinistic because being named after your mother doesn't make you less human and those named after a father name doesn't make you super human....The pain of growing without a father or a mother affects all children so be available in the life's of your children and be functional....Any parent raising a child alone could be also functional if neglected by both parents so this conversation is about a dysfunctional society that rewards patriarchal connection but not merits and talents

When you have an emotional wound cause of moral injury, These needs are activated and the brain cannot figure out how to meet them..Go for counseling so that the needs are explored and expressed and catharsis you get after crying and getting thru' pain relieves the brain thus stress and depression symptoms are manageable.
