Obstetric Violence (OBV) is a common problem in Kenya. Roughly 1 in every 5 women are victims of OBV. Sadly, it is often inflicted by fellow women. Because of the fear of OBV, some women may fail to accept skilled birth attendance, and may therefore be at risk of dying during labour and delivery or after delivery.
There is an ongoing national campaign against this ruthless form of violence against women and girls. However, for this campaign to succeed, we must come together and commit to ensuring that our women are getting the best care possible without being afraid of incurring physical or verbal abuse.
