My morale was at an all-time low. I had already begun packing my equipment, ready to walk away, when my relatives intervened. They pleaded with me to help just a few more patients in desperate need of surgery. I agreed, though my heart was heavy and my energy was spent.
To my surprise, those procedures became the most efficient of my career. I moved with a speed I couldn't explain, culminating in a personal record: a 10-minute laparoscopic cholecystectomy. It felt as though a higher power had taken over. I realized then that this was a sign—a calling to stay and continue the work I was entrusted with. Alhamdulillah.
