Surgical Society of Kenya Premier society for surgeons in Kenya It was officially registered in 1989 (file 14356, society registration number SOC/25508).

The Surgical Society of Kenya (SSK) is a scientific and educational association of surgeons that was founded in the 1980s to champion the welfare of the surgeons in the country and improve the quality of care for the surgical patient by setting high standards for surgical education and practice. Its most active years were in the latter part of the 90’s which saw aggressive member recruitment. The

current SSK membership is about three hundred board certified surgeons in diverse fields including general surgery, orthopaedics, paediatric surgery, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery and reconstructive & plastic surgery and spread around the country. Associate members include residents in training, medical students and theatre nurses. The main activities of the society include educational programs (continuing medical education programs, annual scientific conference, workshops and skills courses), quality and access improvement initiatives (trauma framework, clinical registries, annual surgical camps) and welfare programs.
