These two words will CHANGE. YOUR. LIFE.

They aren't magic, but they are BLOODY powerful!!

AWARENESS & CURIOSITY

I often say to my clients "Hold some curiosity around that over the next week and see what comes up"

or "Just hold an awareness to what happens in that cycle for you"

We spend SO MUCH TIME on auto pilot that we forget to do this. Yet by holding an awareness and curiosity our brain has the opportunity to understand and learn, which it LOVES doing when we are looking at making change.

Change is scary for our brain, it's unpredictable. But when we can spend some time being aware and curious about what happens and why int he cycles we want to break it allows our brain time to understand and make sense of the change. Its easier for it to be a choice rather than something we SHOULD do.

Sound Familiar? 😮‍💨

It can feel so hard to escape this cycle.

Should and Want are emotionally driven concepts, driven by guilt or desire.

There is often no logic in Should to Want, and to get there you need to hit the base of your human NEEDS.

Do what I NEED, what honours your body, what serves you both now AND into the future.

I call this Conscious Decision Making, and it is SO BLOODY POWERFUL!

Struggle with over eating?

In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, it's easy to overlook the signals our bodies send us when it comes to food. Time constraints, stress, and lack of energy can lead us to ignore our internal cues, resulting in eating habits that may not serve or honour our bodies needs.

But here's the deal – in each moment, you have the power to choose how you nourish your body. Tuning into your hunger and fullness cues can be a game-changer for your health. Paying attention to when you're truly hungry versus eating out of habit or emotions can help you make more mindful and conscious choices and prevent overeating.

Likewise, honoring your fullness signals and stopping when you're satisfied, rather than stuffed, can support digestion, energy levels, and overall wellness. It's all about finding that balance and listening to what your body is telling you. Curiosity and awareness are key!

So, next time you reach for a snack or sit down for a meal, take a moment to check in with yourself. Are you truly hungry, or is it something else driving your desire to eat? And once you start eating, pause and gauge your fullness level – are you comfortably satisfied or going overboard?

By embracing this mindful approach to eating and respecting your hunger and fullness cues, you can better support your health goals and better manage stress. It's all about making small, intentional choices that add up to a big impact on your well-being.

Remember, you have the power to nourish your body in a way that honours your unique needs and supports your journey to optimal health. Learning to listen to, and understand, your bodies signals is one of the most powerful steps on this journey!

Unpopular Opinion incoming......

You CANNOT overcome emotional eating or binge eating by changing your food.

I see many health 'professionals' on social media focusing on changing food behaviours with NO understanding or comprehension of just how deep the emotional spirals go.

In fact, many of them have no trauma informed training at all. When I opened up my world to trauma informed care, I realised just how deep emotional wounds are and no amount of intuitive eating coaching will heal those.

Nutrition changes are the tiniest fraction of my approaches with clients, because they wont sustainably change in the long term without working on what is DRIVING the emotions in the first place!

Im a 'get to the root cause' kind of practitioner, even if it takes longer, doesnt look as sexy and doesnt 'sell' as easily 🤷‍♀️

Talk therapy says "Tell me what's happened to you"

Somatic therapy says "Tell me what's happening in your body right now, in relation to what's happened to you"

Many of my clients will attest to the fact I often ask "And where do you notice that in your body?"

So much of what we do and feel is subconsciously driven, so all the knowledge and understanding and logical changes or recommendations in the world are useless if we are driven from an emotionally subconscious place, and if what is happening in our subconscious mind is not serving us.

Somatic therapy is amazing as a gateway to changing this process and is a huge corner stone in my practice!

Read for 5 Tips for Emotional Eaters ✨

Emotional eating isn't ALWAYS a problem, sometimes it can be a part of emotional regulation.

However if it causes you to feel guilty or feel shame then read on, I have 5 tips to help you!

1️⃣ Practice Mindful Eating
Doing this will help you stay present in the moment to stop making emotion based actions and make logical and rational choices instead. If you don't know where to start head to my Etsy store (link in bio) and grab the Mindful Eating Meditation & Journal Prompts!

2️⃣ Conscious Decision Making
When you are able to stay present, you can use the following decision making questions:
What is it I am currently feeling?
What is it I am trying to do and achieve?
How do I want to feel?
Will this decision get me closer to that or further away?
What action do I want to take when I feel like this in the future?

3️⃣ Plan B's
I always have OPTIONS available to me, and when there is options, there is choice. I have back up foods that honour my body's needs for when I am EXHAUSTED and CBF making food so I can honour my minds needs too. This can include: frozen meals, microwave veggies, microwave rice, pre made bulk meals, quick 5 minute recipes for example

4️⃣ Trauma Release/ Processing
Working with a qualified and trauma informed professional can help get to the root cause of the emotion so that it can be processed. This means when you feel it, it isnt so big, overwhelming and hard to navigate. Using somatic, or body based therapy can really help you to connect with the emotions in your body and process them

5️⃣ Add in Protein, Micronutrients and Fibre
Eating ice cream? Add in some raspberries
Eating Lasagna? Add in a big ol handful of baby spinach
Eating take out? Add in a protein shake
These are some of the things most peoples diets really lack so while you eat the food you are enjoying, give your body what it needs too!

Holistic health means looking at your physical health, mental health and emotional health and even looks at your environment.

Over in this little corner of instagram we don't look at how much weight you have lost, but rather how you are feeling, functioning and how much safety your body has.

So many clients I have worked with are in a state of sympathetic dominance, which means their body is in fight or flight more often than not. This system of fight or flight should only be activated if we are in immediate danger. Yet we are safer than ever before.

Social media, the news, work/ life balance, too much caffeine and too little sleep, not to mention traumatic experiences in our lives are just SOME of the factors that tell our brain and body we are in danger when in fact there is little to no threat.

How to you think you will lose weight if your body is constantly perceiving danger? How long will you keep it off if you are chronically stressed and anxious?

This is one of the root causes of emotions and binge eating. And no diet plan or food focus or training program will change this.

This is why HOLISTIC health care is required. We need to work on your relationship with food, yes absolutely. And we also need to work on your relationship with yourself AND how your brain and body perceive the world around you.

I have been a little MIA from this space, to fill up my own cup, to try and gain some clarity on where I want to take this business and all the skills that I have learned and developed over the last decade. To navigate my own grief or loss without relapsing into old coping mechanisms of emotional eating or binge eating. To take on board ALL the tools I have taught my beautiful clients throughout this business journey.

I find social media sometimes overwhelming, a space where a 'hot body' can produce a better and more profitable business than someone like me over here with multiple qualifications and lived experience.

Where someone's physique is their resume. Where people are putting others in danger by giving unqualified advice. Where looks continuously over power health, and are put on a pedestal without looking at the bigger picture. Crazy 8 week before and after photos will win over making that changes that nobody gets to see except you, every. single. time.

How do you compete with that?

Well I certainly cannot help by walking away. I have worked too hard in my career, my study, and my own journey let alone those of my clients to stop fighting for holistic mental and physical wellbeing of all of you who see this.

I am in your corner. And I will fight for you. In the hope that something I post, something I say, a session with me or one of my courses or resources will make a difference in how you see yourself and your health.
