The increasing burden of Non-communicable diseases, commonly known as lifestyle diseases, has been attributed to poor lifestyle. The economic transition and rapid urbanization in the current world has led to lifestyle changes including reduced physical activity, shift in dietary patterns and excess use of to***co and alcohol. According to a report by Ministry of Health, Kenya, 17 per cent of Kenyans live an inactive life. Further information shows that more than 70 per cent consume unhealthy diets composed of processed foods, foods high in fats, sugar and salt and has low consumption of fruit, vegetables and dietary fiber such as whole grains. The report also states that about two million Kenyans are smokers and half of them will die of to***co-related diseases. These changes in lifestyle, have put more people at increased risk factors for NCDs including overweight and obesity. Recent statistics by the Ministry of Health, Kenya, indicates that 18.7 per cent of Kenyans are overweight while 5 per cent are obese, putting 20 per cent of the population at risk of developing the diseases.

Alcohol and Pregnancy
There is no safe level of alcohol use in pregnancy. Alcohol in the mother's blood passes to the baby through the umbilical cord. Pregnant women and those planning to be pregnant should refrain from alcohol use. Several conditions, including miscarriage, stillbirth, and fetal alcohol spectrum disorders are likened to use of alcohol during pregnancy.

Towards achieving financial wellness. Pay yourself first.
Many personal finance professionals and retirement planners tout the "pay yourself first" plan as a very effective way to ensure you continue making your chosen savings contributions month after month. It removes the temptation to skip a contribution and spend the funds on expenses other than savings. Regular, consistent savings contributions go a long way toward building a long-term nest egg, and some financial professionals even go so far as to call "pay yourself first" the golden rule of personal finance.

Active Sports and Active Recreation
Two examples of physical activities are active sports and active recreation. So, what is the difference between the two?
For a physical activity to qualify as an active sport, it must meet the following requirements
• Use the large muscles of the body
• Be vigorous making the heart to beat faster than normal
• Must have well defined rules and typically involve competition between individuals or teams.
• Have winners and losers
• Have strategy and tactics to meet the goals
Note: Although games like chess and card games have well defined rules and involve competition, they are not considered active sports because they do not use the large muscles of the body. Likewise, children games that are highly competitive and use large muscles but without well-defined rules are not active sports.
Physical activities that involves the large muscles of the body, are vigorous, but are done for fun or during free time are considered active recreation.
Examples of active sports include cross-country, soccer and single tennis. However, it is worth noting that sometimes an active sport can be done as a form of active recreation. For example, one person can run cross-country as a competitive sport while another might run long distances just for enjoyment and relaxation.
