Alopecia is the medical term for 𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗱. Areata means 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝘆.

💆🏾 When you have alopecia areata, cells in your immune system attack your hair follicles (the part of your body that makes hair). 𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙤𝙣 𝙖 𝙝𝙖𝙞𝙧 𝙛𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙡𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙙 𝙝𝙖𝙞𝙧 𝙩𝙤 𝙛𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙤𝙪𝙩.

💆🏾 This patchy baldness can develop anywhere on the body, including the scalp, beard area, eyebrows, eyelashes, armpits, inside your nose, or ears.

💆🏾 The more hair follicles that your immune system attacks, the more hair loss you will have.

💆🏾 Men may experience hair loss in their facial hair, as well as their scalp, chest, and back hair.

💆🏾 The hair loss tends to be unpredictable. Hair may regrow; and it may fall out again

💆🏾 It cannot be cured;
Contagious: NO.

🌷 APS is the most important treatable cause of recurrent miscarriages. Stillbirth is also a possibility.

The WHO has stated that over 1 Billion people are living with some form of Disability.

This year, International Day of People with Disabilities should be used to recognise that people who live with disabilities are among the most affected populations amid the COVID pandemic. Where marginalisation, discrimination, vulnerability and exploitation are every day factors for many people, the increased risk of poor outcomes have been magnified with the reduced access to routine health care and rehabilitation services, more pronounced social isolation, poorly tailored public health messaging, inadequately constructed mental health services, and a lack of emergency preparedness for people with special needs.
