Snake Bite First Aid – What You Need to Know.

Snake bites are a serious risk in many parts of Cambodia—especially in rural areas, farms, and construction sites. Knowing the correct response can make the difference between life and death.

In this post we highlight key do’s and don’ts for responding to a snake bite. This is just one of the many real-world emergencies we cover in our Primary (CPR & AED) and Secondary Care First Aid Training.

✅ DO:

✅ Keep the person calm and still to slow the spread of venom
✅ Call emergency services or arrange urgent transport to medical care
✅ Immobilise the bitten limb and keep it below heart level
✅ Remove any tight clothing or jewellery near the bite site
✅ Apply a pressure bandage: Start at the bite site, wrap down the limb, then back up. Cover as much of the limb as possible

❌ DON’T:

❌ Don’t try to suck out the venom
❌ Don’t cut the wound
❌ Don’t apply ice or a tourniquet
❌ Don’t give any food or drink
