I hope the world will hear this small voice — a voice of pain from Cambodia, a country currently suffering from aggression by Thailand, and unjustly portrayed by Thailand as the initiator of war.
Thailand has informed the international community that Cambodia was the first to open fire. In truth, it was Thailand that initiated the aggression. Moreover, Thailand has not only distorted Cambodia’s image within its own country but also on the international stage. This malicious misrepresentation has deeply hurt the Cambodian people, who are victims of both aggression and defamation — simply because we are a smaller nation with fewer resources and less influence on the global stage. Yet we believe that truth is not determined by money or power, but by integrity.
To judge a person’s character, one does not look at their words but at their actions. The same applies to countries.
Thailand claims to be a peace-loving nation, but let us examine its actions:
Thai forces crossed the border and fatally shot a Cambodian soldier.
Cambodia invited Thailand to resolve the issue peacefully through the International Court of Justice (ICJ), but Thailand refused.
Thailand unilaterally closed the border crossings.
Thailand threatened to cut off electricity and internet supplies to Cambodia.
Just days ago, a Thai civilian assaulted a Cambodian officer and fled.
Before launching any attacks, Thailand expelled Cambodia’s ambassador and recalled its own.
I ask: Are these the actions of a good neighbor? Are these the behaviors of a peace-loving country?
Cambodia is an ancient nation that has endured much hardship and oppression. We seek only peace. We are a small country with a small population — how could we dare to provoke conflict with Thailand, a much larger and more populous nation?
This is a heartfelt message from a humble Cambodian citizen, who seeks nothing more than to present the truth to the world and ask for justice. Please, do not believe my words alone — look at the facts for yourself.
