ICL Surgery is an Outpatient Procedure at BGSS Eye Clinic 🔵

📌 If you have a high myopia or astigmatism (-8 or higher) or a thin cornea that makes you ineligible for laser refractive surgeries like LASIK or LASEK, the Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) surgery would be the best fit for you!

For those who have a high or severe myopia, a great amount of corneal tissue removal is required. The residual corneal tissue may not be sufficiently secured, which can lead to conditions like keratoconus (corneal thinning) or corneal ectasia. Hence, the ICL surgery, which does not alter the natural shape or health of the cornea, would be your option 🙌

Previously, ICL surgeries were performed only on one eye at a time after a thorough examination, which required three days of visits for patients. Through numerous clinical cases since introducing ICL surgery in 2002, BGSS has built the skill to perform surgery on both eyes at a time! 👀

💡 But How Does It Work?
▶ Previously, ICL surgery required an iridotomy (surgical incision into the iris) to allow aqueous flow around the lens and prevent pupillary block complications like intraocular pressure, which results in glaucoma.

✅ Now, patients have the option to have ICL surgery without the need for an iridotomy with the new Evo Visian ICL. This lens has been shown to reduce the incidence of post-surgical complications whilst maintaining positive visual outcomes equivalent to conventional ICLs ✨
