Importance of having a positive attitude in life

A positive attitude is not just about sporting that smile on your face every time, it is more than that. It is about maintaining that optimistic mindset and attitude even when things are in utter chaos. It is often said that what good or bad diet does to your body, positive and negative thoughts do the same to your mind! Feed your mind with positive thoughts and you will see amazing changes around you.

When you start thinking optimistically, your mind becomes clear of any negative thoughts and you will see the world in a new light. You will stop blaming yourself or others. You will be in total control of your emotions and try to seek a valuable lesson in every setback you experience.

Remember, your thoughts determine your feelings and actions. So whenever any negative thought comes to your mind, immediately replace it with a positive one. Even if you are in a dire state of affairs, a positive mindset will help you sail through the difficult phase easily.

Intellectual wellness refers to active participation in scholastic, cultural, and community activities. It is important to gain and maintain intellectual wellness because it expands knowledge and skills in order to live a stimulating, successful life. In order to improve intellectual wellness, it is important to value creativity, curiosity, and lifelong learning.

Eight simple steps to increase your intellectual wellness

1. Read for fun.
Reading, especially something you enjoy, can improve your intellect by stretching your mind to think about things you normally don’t think about!

2. Debate an issue with a friend, but choose the viewpoint opposite the one you hold.
Focusing attention on information that is different than your beliefs can improve intellectual wellness. Naturally, we tend to only focus our attention on opinions, beliefs, and facts that hold true to our viewpoints. When you expose the mind to opposing ideas, it expands the mind to grasp new information.

3. Improve your skills for studying and learning.
Learning new things about the way your mind processes information can be a vital tool to helping you succeed.

4. Learn a foreign language.
Learning a foreign language can be beneficial to your intellectual health and your employment prospects. When learning different ways to communicate, your mind expands.

5. Play a game.
Board games and cards are popularly known as leisure activities. These activities can also help with your intellectual wellness.

6. Play a musical instrument.
Music has a powerful impact on our minds. Playing a musical instrument can increase intellectual wellness by learning how to create sounds, make patterns, and emote through music.

7. Write down your thoughts or journal frequently.
Being able to identify your feelings and understanding yourself more and your actions increase intellectual wellness by exposing your mind to deeper thinking.

8. Do crossword or sudoku puzzles.
Working through puzzles or finding words in patterns uses a great amount of brain power. Increasing your ability to work through these activities can maintain and build your intellectual wellness.

90% of all diseases are caused by stress

Studies have shown that 90% of diseases and illness are associated with stress. This is why you need not stress too much about wanting to have a ‘perfect diet.’ The lack of willpower or giving up on a healthy diet because it’s just too hard to follow should not be reasons for stress. These can adversely affect you and the stress can be more harmful to your body causing inflammation and toxins then when you actually eat food not so healthy for your body.

Whether it is the person who makes the food or the person eating it, it is important to always be grateful and enjoy the meal. Recently, a reality show featuring a middle-aged culinary expert said something really mind blowing. One day, she was very mad at her husband and that night she cooked dinner with so much hatefulness in her heart and to her surprise her husband became very sick with indigestion after eating that meal. Also, in a different program there was an old man who believed that instant ramen noodles were actually healthy food and for a very long period continuously ate instant noodles without having any health issues. They were both amazing stories.

The idea of always having to follow a perfect diet can be burdensome and cause anxiety. Let’s put it to rest for a minute and enjoy the company and share a conversation with the person in front of you. Whatever type of food it may be at your table, if you believe and enjoy food as blessings which will nurture your body and soul, then that in itself is a ‘healthy meal.’

We live in a society where there is a plethora of information about healthy eating and the value and virtues of an ‘enjoyable meal’ losing insight more and more. Let’s try not to focus too much on the ‘scientific’ aspect of food and consider eating food as an experience with people to ‘communicate,’ ‘exchange culture, ‘a time for expression,’ and also ‘share love.’

Happy Eating is Healthy Eating

Have you heard of the mental illness called Orthorexia Nervosa? It’s a condition where some people are morbidly obsessed with healthy food intake. Surprisingly, it can lead to underweight, nutritional imbalance and cause fatal consequences to one’s health. It can get so severe to despise others who do not follow the diet which they believe is right and if they break away from their set eating habits may fall into a tremendous sense of guilt and self-loathing.
Eating healthy is super important, but it is worth checking if you have any unhealthy obsessions about eating a healthy diet.
Being overly obsessed with the healthy food categories you set for yourself, or overly pushing oneself into certain dietary diets (vegetarian, paleo, Keto and etc.,) or forcing someone to have a healthy diet, or feeling guilty about what you eat is harmful to your health, no matter how healthy your food.
