INTERMITTENT FASTING

There's a lot of talk about intermittent fasting on here with claims of benefits that are just not true. And it's nobody's fault for simply repeating claims that have been published on the internet for many years. But thankfully 2 new pieces of literature have been published this past month to finally put these to rest. Below I have summarized them but I will include the links to the research for you.

The bottom line: When searching for a way to lose fat there is a need to maximize adherence & individualize the approach to personal preference. Intermittent fasting is a viable option (and it’s good to have options); it’s just not *superior* to conventional linear dieting.

I’ve been beating this drum for a while now, but it might be time to formally remove the “magic” badge from intermittent fasting’s benefit beyond helping some people (but not everyone) better control energy intake.

“I FEEL FAT” is code for something deeper going on.

Fat is not a feeling or an emotion. Finding the words to more precisely describe your actual emotions give an opportunity to get the emotional support and help that you need.

Overvaluation of Weight and Shape

It's a really demoralising, depressing and overwhelming belief to have, because pretty much from the moment you wake to the moment you go to bed your thoughts are filled with your body image and how you can change it, of course usually leading to an over preoccupation with food in the process. 😥

Overvaluation of weight and shape means there isn't too much else in your life you value, and putting all your emphasis on any one thing alone is a risk because if it's not going the way you want of course you are going to feel like you are a failure. 🚩🚩🚩

The problem is that when we feel like we've failed quite often we can reach for food to comfort us, and so the vicious cycle continues. ⁠

That doesn't mean you shouldn't care what you look like, of course you can and should (if you want!), but it's about finding a balance so that you don't let it consume you and your life. ⁠😀⁠
