✨HAPPY LABOUR DAY✨
This day always reminds me of 6 years ago when I experienced my first (& last) medical labour induction 🚀🌟 a 3-hour wild ride into labour land to meet my little guy. Since then, I’ve supported many more labour inductions as a doula. Here are a few tips to navigate labour inductions with more clarity and confidence:
1️⃣ Know your options. Medical or natural, each method has pros and cons. Educate yourself on labour inductions and the potential “cascade of interventions” that can follow. Don’t be afraid to say no if it’s not wanted or needed—you get to choose what feels right for you and your baby. Communicate your preferences clearly.
2️⃣ Expect the unexpected. Labour inductions are on average often longer than spontaneous labours, patience is key. Go with your birth flow, and trust your body’s timing.
3️⃣ Book a morning time slot for hospital admission. Many mamas are scheduled to start inductions overnight and end up losing a night’s sleep before labour even begins. Starting in the morning after a full night’s rest at home and a good meal sets you up with more energy for the journey ahead.
4️⃣ Move, fuel, and breathe. Labour is an endurance event. Movement during labor can help shorten the process and allow the baby to move into a more optimal position. Walk, sway, move, eat, drink, and use breathwork to your advantage.
5️⃣ Comfort & support matter. Continuous support is key. Your birth partner, doula, or caregiver can help with position changes, massage, counterpressure, and reassurance. Emotional support is as powerful as physical support.
6️⃣ Trust yourself. You know your body and your baby best. Your voice matters, Mama ♥️
