Example: apples, oranges, grapes, tomatoes, spinach and broccoli.

TIPS FOR TREATING URINE INFECTION

1--- Drink Plenty of Fluids
Hydration status has been linked to the risk of urinary tract infection. Drinking enough fluids will lead to higher urination and thus flushing bacteria from urinary tract to prevent infection.

2--- Increase Vitamin C Intake:
Some evidence shows that increasing vitamin c intake could protect against urinary tract infection.
It is thought to work by increasing the acidity of urine, thereby killing off the bacteria that cause infection

3—Drink Unsweetened Cranberry Juice
This juice works by preventing bacteria from adhering to the urinary tract, thus preventing infection

GENES EFFECT ON OBESITY

Science shows that genes can directly cause obesity.
However they (genes) do not always predict future health.

Genes and behavior may both be needed for a person to be overweight.

Obesity risk is two to eight times higher for a person with a family history as opposed to a person with no family history of obesity.

Families can’t change their genes, but they can change the family environment to encourage healthy eating habits and physical activity. Those changes can improve the health of family members and improve the family health history for the next generation.

WEIGHT PLATEAU

Definition: When the calories you burn equal the calories you eat. This slow metabolism will slow the weight loss process.

Many patients get discouraged during plateau stage and revert to bad habits.

These are some tips that can help you restart weight-loss plan.

…. Cut more calories: Further cut your daily calories, provided this doesn’t put you below 1100 calories. Fewer than 1100 calories a day may not be enough to keep you from constant hunger, which increases your risk of overeating.

… Exercise more: increasing your general physical activity throughout the day, -example- by walking more and using your car less.

…Do not underestimate yourself when you stop losing weight due to plateau. Keep in mind that every patient on weight loss plan will eventually reach plateau phase. You can make the difference by not giving up!

STARVATION DIETS

Hi dear followers

All my patients know that I strongly recommend to avoid such type of diets for the following reasons:

…starvation means deprivation: so when you deprive your body from food it will be under stress and thus it will react negatively (gain weight) when you reintroduce food to it again.

…losing weight is not the main issue in diet process: our body composition is what matters.
Our body is made of lean mass (muscles, water, bones), and fat.

The goal of dieting is to lose fat and maintain our lean mass.

Unfortunately starvation diets do the opposite (we lose muscles and water more than fat) and thus lead to low metabolic rate and consequently to a rapid regain of weight.

On the contrary, balanced diets preserve your lean mass and lead to a greater fat loss and consequently maintaining your weight after such diets is easier.

Finally, note: that any monthly weight loss of more than of 5 percent of your current weight is considered bad because it reflects a loss in lean mass that exceeds the loss in fat

EFFECT OF COLOR ON WEIGHT

Several years ago, the makers of M&Ms-(the American candy that contains an assortment of different colored chocolate sweets), added a new color to its candy bag : BLUE.

Why blue?
Because: it is an appetite suppressant.

Weight loss plans suggest putting your food on a blue plate, or even put a blue light in your refrigerator.
Another appetite suppressant idea is using a blue light for your dining room.

Now the question is, why is blue an unappetizing color?

Blue food is a rare occurrence in nature. There are no leafy blue vegetables (example: blue lettuce??), no blue meats (blueburger??),no blue potato, … etc.
Consequently, we don’t have an automatic appetite response to blue.

Another reason: our primal nature avoids food that are poisonous. I can remember my grandma and grandpa say that blue, purple and black were “ color warning signs “ of potentially lethal food.

COLD WATER AND WEIGHT LOSS

Many studies have been published to discuss this issue. They concluded that drinking ice cold water helps boost your metabolism because your body has to work harder to warm the water up, therefore burning more calories and helping you to lose weight. Plus, ice cold water is much more refreshing than water that is room temperature.

note: while you burn a few extra calories by drinking cold water instead of warm (as discussed above), the difference is too minimal to impact the scale.

conclusion: water in general is helpful in weight loss. Drink it at any temperature you like.

LEPTIN HORMONE AND OBESITY

Hi Everybody

I will discuss today a new hormone called leptin

Modern obesity research discusses leptin as a major factor influencing obesity through acting as “ leading driver” of fat gain.

Leptin is produced by the body’s fat cells. It is often referred to as the “ satiety hormone”.
It is supposed to tell the brain that we have enough fat stored, that we don’t need to eat, and that we can burn calories at a normal rate. So, its role is long-term regulation of energy balance (the amount of calories we eat and expend, and how much fat we store in our bodies)

So , if you are obese, you have high number of fat cells, which means more leptin.
More leptin means more signal to the brain to stop eating!!. Ok, if this is right than obese people should not be overeating because they have more leptin.
Right?. Ok ladies and gentlemen, the issue is that leptin in obese people was found to be of bad quality and thus not delivering the right signal to the brain to stop eating

HUNGER BEFORE PERIOD

Hi ladies.

Most of you surely complain about the urge to eat a lot before your monthly period.

This hunger is normal since it’s a normal instinct due to hormonal reasons.

During ovulation,(12 to 16 days before your period), your body is getting ready for a potential pregnancy. It wants to be stocked and ready just in case. So, estrogen and progesterone peak during that time, and thus trigger a hunger response, telling you to get some food.

Moreover, your body’s basal metabolic rate speeds up before and during the early part of your period to fuel the process of menstruation.
100 to 300 extra calories are burned per day, which makes you feel hungry.

Finally, fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone levels can also affect serotonin, which plays a big role in mood swings and food cravings.
When serotonin hit a low right before period, eating sugar and high carb foods will boost your mood, through boosting serotonin in the brain.

Hi everybody

Long time no see!!

I am back and I will discuss today diet pills that dieters consider using to achieve a faster weight loss.

My patients already know that I advise to avoid them.

Why?

I truly believe that there is no magic bullet for losing weight. The most effective way to lose weight and keep it off is through lifestyle changes.

Weight-loss pills, whether herbal or not, are at best, tools that may help with weight loss. But there is relatively little research about these products, and the best studied of these are prescription weight-loss drugs.

Studied showed that diet pills do not work for everyone, and their benefit may be modest.

Moreover many diet pills have serious side effects: headache, increased blood pressure, tachycardia and nervousness.
I hope you got it by now, why i do not recommend using them

HIGH PROTEIN DIETS

Women need at least 50 grams of protein a day -- men about 60 grams per day. With a high-protein diet, it can be much more than that. This extra protein can come from meat, eggs, seafood, cheese or vegetarian sources like soy. These diets often restrict carbs like cereals, grains, fruits, and possibly vegetables.

How Do High-Protein Diets Work?
When you cut out carbohydrates, you lose weight quickly because you lose water. Then, with no extra carbs, the body begins burning more fat for fuel. This can lead to ketosis, which may make losing weight easier because you feel less hungry. Ketosis may cause temporary headaches, irritability, and nausea

Personally, I do not recommend high protein diets because they were found to cause calcium loss and mostly water loss which makes you regain your lost weight easily.
Moreover, high protein acts as a risk factor for kidney damage.
Finally, I always recommend a balanced diet because it is the safest. However, if you insist on following a high protein diet, go for it but for a short period of time as planned by your diet specialist.

I will teach you today some guidelines that help in strengthening your fertility.

1. GET MORE PROTEIN FROM PLANT FOODS AND LESS FROM RED MEAT
Plant protein such as from beans, nuts, and seeds come with healthy fats and is relatively low in calories and thus helpful for weight loss.

2. WHOLE MILK
Try to drink one to two cups of whole milk or yoghurt per day
Note that low fat dairy products are not recommended

3. MULTIVITAMIN
Take a multivitamin that contains at least 400 micrograms of folic acid and 60 mg iron.

4. CAFFEINE
Coffee, tea, and alcohol are allowed in moderate amounts. However, avoid sugary drinks entirely.

DIET FOR OLD PEOPLE

An increase in starchy, high fiber providing foods and a reduction in fatty and sugary foods is likely to be beneficial and especially for those who are overweight.
However, elderlies with repeated infection are not advised to be on such a low fat diet plan.

It is important for older people to choose a nutrient rich diet, high in foods providing protein, vitamins and minerals such as milk and dairy products, meat, eggs, fish , cereals, fruits, vegetables…
Some older people can’t eat large meals. In such cases, snacks are very important.

Note that senses of taste and smell decline with age, which can make food seem less appetizing. Using different colors and shapes in cooking can stimulate the senses and add to eating enjoyment. The addition of herbs and spices can make food more delicious for elderlies.

DIET FOR FATTY LIVER

Fatty liver is a condition in which the cells of the liver accumulate abnormally increased amounts of fat.
Many think that only alcohol drinkers experience this complication. They are wrong, because people who never had an alcoholic drink were found to suffer from fatty liver too.

Dietary Recommendations:
1.. Fruits and vegetables
These are rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals and thus strengthen the body’s immune system.
In addition to that, fruits and vegetables aid in weight loss process, which helps in treating fatty liver.

2.Whole Grains
These have a low glycemic index( have a low effect on blood glucose level) thus help in calming down the fatty liver complication.
Example of whole grains: oat, burghul, brown rice

3.Unsaturated Fat

WHAT TO MONITOR DURING BREASTFEEDING

1 .Excessive caffeine: 2 cups of coffee, tea or soda a day will not affect your baby. However, more than that will lead to both of you feeling jittery, sleepless and irritable.

2. High mercury fish: Avoid high mercury fish like mackerel, shark, and limit tuna to canned white 150 g per week.

3. High fat dairy and meat: Pesticides and other chemicals are usually stored in animal fats, therefore try to limit your high fat food.
If you insist on eating dairy, meat, poultry and meat, consider choosing organic, since producers cannot use antibiotics, pesticides, and growth hormone.

4 . Alcohol: In case you are insisting on having a small drink, take it right after you nurse, to allow a couple of hours for the alcohol to metabolize.
Note: Aim to limit yourself to few drinks during a week. Heavy drinking can make baby sleepy, unresponsive and unable to suck well.

5. Some herbs: Try to avoid herbal supplements that are considered food supplements, because many of these herbs might harm your baby.

6. Some sugar substitutes: The only one to avoid is Sweet’n low (aka saccharine). Other choices like splenda, stevia, are safe.

FOOD PRESENTATION AND EFFECT ON DIET

Studies have shown that the way food is presented to us has a significant effect on how much of it we eat.

1. COLOR
Blue color for example has been found to act as an appetite suppressant.
So, dieters are advised to use blue plates so they end up eating less.

2. VISIBILTY
When it comes to snack containers, it is better to use an opaque jar than a clear one if you are looking to eat more slowly.

3. PORTION SIZE
People who use bigger plates consume more than those who use plates that are slightly smaller.
