🌵 Have you ever attempted sleep training or separation techniques and felt they were not for you?

" Human babies, and human adults for that matter, are animals. We are primates, a kind of mammal, and our babies are animal babies.

Although humans like to think of themselves as unique, we share much of our physiology and behavior with others of our kind, with other primates.

The point is that human babies, like all babies, are animals of a certain species, born with certain physical and mental abilities and lacking some others.

Much of the animal context of human babies and children can be understood best through the lens of biological evolution.

Human babies are simply what they have been designed to be. "

🌵Having a baby who wakes up early is exhausting for parents, and one of the more common reasons that families look for sleep support.

As a first step, we always check the sleep environment and sleep schedule, but it is not always that simple. There are many things that can cause early rising as well, including:

1. Hunger or Thirst
We notice this, especially with families who have pushed night weaning before the baby is really ready. Most children do need to feed at night even after age 1 year. In this case, there is no option but for the child to start its day

2. Digestive Discomfort (gas, need to pass stool, reflux)
This kind of discomfort is either temporary or can cause early rising for a long period of time

3. Discomfort (teething, sickness,..)
These are usually temporary. Once children are comfortable, they get back to their old sleep schedule

4. Need for connection
This is one of the most common reasons for early rising, even for preschoolers

🌵 The cases I am currently working on inspired me to make this post. Some cases are rooted in trauma, and we have been working on them for months🤞 Moms who are struggling and trying to withstand the storm, you are supermoms! We see you ❤️

‐------------------------------------

Disclaimer: Not implying that if we are struggling, we need to sit back and wait it out for the sake of our children. This is for parents who are actively working on finding the root cause of their baby's sleep struggles, for the baby's sake and the whole family's wellbeing sake, which, in some cases, could take some time🤞
