Time to Talk Architecture and the future of the profession with a remarkable guest
Mr. Alexis Moukarzel
He was also my professor for 3 wonderful years.
Involved in both theory and practice for over 40 years, Alexis founded Moukarzel Architecture in 1980, handling Architecture, Interior Architecture, Landscape, and Urbanism projects, integrating patrimonial and cultural values to development concepts by targeting sustainability as a major goal. With projects in the retail, housing, educational, cultural, and commercial fields in the Middle East and abroad, Alexis also led multiple research topics, publications, colloquiums, and juries.
In the Academic field since 1978, Alexis was Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts in USEK for 2 consecutive terms, establishing international links with multiple architectural universities in Europe, organizing various international colloquiums, curating 17 international Art and Architecture exhibitions at the university, leading more than 20 juries, and participating as a senior jury member to the local and international juries formed by the Order of Engineers and Architects of Beirut. Alexis was also a member of PHD Juries at the Sorbonne University in Paris. He organized and contributed to the organization of competitions in the Academic and Professional fields in the Middle East and abroad.
Engaged in research projects where he explores the various dimensions of Art and Architecture in relation with the relative cultural contexts throughout History, he focused mainly on Islamic and Christian patrimonies targeting intercultural affinities and semantic means of dialogue. Alexis contributed to international seminars and published articles in the fields of theory, practice and education.
