The Saint Lucia Medical and Dental Association is please to formally recognize Dr Minerva King MD, MSc, AAHIVS on her successful attainment of credentialing as an HIV specialist from the American Academy of Hiv medicine. This internationally recognized credentials is awarded to experienced licensed, Frontline clinical providers who demonstrate advanced knowledge and competence in HIV medical care through a rigorous psychometricslly validated examination process and ongoing recertification. Dr King's achievement reflects her voluntary commitment to the highest standards of excellence, evidence based practice, patient centered practice and high quality care for people living with HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.
Dr King holds a Masters of Science in Infectious Disease (Merit) from the University if Buckingham, England. Her post graduate thesis entitled "A Literature review on discrimination and its effects on people living with HIV (PLWHIV) in seeking care and treatment in the United Kingdom highlights her long standing academic and professional interest in health equity, stigma reduction and the social determinants of health.
She earned her medical degree Cum Laude in 2005 from Universidad de Ciencias MΓ©dicas Serafina Ruiz de ZΓ‘rate, Santa Clara Cuba.
Throughout her career, Dr King had demonstrated sustained leadership and service in public health. She is a member of the British HIV Association and previously served as PRO of the SLMDA. She was also a member of the community advisory Board for the regional Stigma and Discrimination Unit from 2010 to 2012 and a member of the OECS HIV Clinical Care coordinators (HIV/STI) network between 2011 and 2014. These roles reflect her commitment to regional collaboration advocacy and policy informed clinical practice.
Upon returning to Saint Lucia, Dr King completed her internship at the Victoria Hospital, after which she transitioned into community based Healthcare as a District Medical Officer, providing comprehensive clinical services across wellness centres. Early in her professional career, she developed a strong interest in HIV medicine user the mentorship of Dr Marie Grandison-Didier, an influence that shaped her clinical focus and professional trajectory. She subsequently received extensive training through regional and International organizations including PAHO, WHO, PEPFAR, CHART, OECS/HAPU, I-Tech, The University of Washington and the Ministey of Health here in Saint Lucia. She benefited from further mentorship by Dr Christopher Behrens and Dr Tina Hylton Kong in advanced HIV and STI clinical management.
Since 2008 Dr King has provided continuous medical care to people livibg with HIV both publicly and privately. She also serves as a Back up peace corps medical officer for the Eastern Caribbean since 2015
She is a passionate advocate for health promotion and destigmatization and had made multiple radio, TV and other media appearances over her 17 year career in HIV treatment and managment
Outside of her professional responsibilities Dr King values time with het family and her pet dog Coconut. She has a lifelong appreciation for music, having played the Clarinet since childhood and recently started the study of the Cello. Additional interests include forensic medicine, archery, art and spending time with nature.
