Colombo – In celebration of World Sight Day 2025, Vision Care, Sri Lanka’s largest vision, hearing, and eyewear solutions provider, together with the Ceylon Council Of Optometry and Orthoptics (CCOO), organized a vibrant Awareness Walk to raise public awareness on the importance of preventive eye care and regular eye check-ups.
The walk commenced from Viharamahadevi Park and concluded at Independence Square, drawing enthusiastic participation from optometry professionals, students, and members of the general public. Held under the global theme “Love Your Eyes,” the event emphasized the collective responsibility of individuals and communities in safeguarding vision health and promoting timely access to professional eye care services.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), at least 2.2 billion people worldwide live with some form of vision impairment near or distance and in 1 billion of those cases, the condition could have been prevented or remains unaddressed. These figures underscore the urgent need for early detection, access to quality eye care, and awareness-building initiatives like this one.
The World Sight Day 2025 Awareness Walk served as a symbolic reminder that clear vision begins with awareness. By bringing together professionals, students, and families, the event reinforced the message that eye health is a shared responsibility, essential for the well-being of every age group from children to the elderly.
