💃Adjustments: Physical Assists through Hands-On Touch👋
✅️When I adjust a student, I mostly use a light touch of the fingers in order to correct, deepen, or adjust their posture. This brings the student's attention to the part of the body that needs to adjust, to shift, to soften.
✅️Occasionally, I will use pressure in some poses to deepen the students' experience, but I do this very seldomly, and only if I personally know the student.
✅️Hands-on adjusts often compliment verbal cues.
1. Fingers are moving towards the middle of the back for the student to focus on softening and lengthening the thoracic spine.
2. I am lightly touching her right hip in order for her to feel that this is the side that needs to be slightly lowered in order to level the hips.
I very often see no differentiation between open hips and closed hips in classes, and hence, the student gains no awareness of the difference. This is often seen in one-legged downward facing dog or one-legged standing forward fold, as depicted in the pictures.
