Public Health Notice: Protect Against Leptospirosis (Rat Fever) After Floods
During and after flood situations, there is a serious risk of Leptospirosis (Rat Fever), which can enter the body through cuts, scrapes, or mucous membranes when in contact with contaminated water and mud.

Your health and safety are our priority. Do not self-medicate.

If you or someone in your family has been exposed to floodwaters, especially with existing wounds or cuts:

Seek Medical Advice Immediately: Contact your nearest Medical Officer of Health (MOH) Office, Public Health Inspector (PHI), or Government Hospital.

Get Official Prophylaxis: Doxycycline is the proven medicine for preventing Rat Fever in high-risk individuals. It can be obtained FREE of charge from the MOH Office or PHI gentlemen as part of the public health response.

DO NOT TAKE IT WITHOUT CONSULTATION: A healthcare professional must determine the correct dosage and ensure the medicine is safe for you, especially for pregnant women and young children.

Key Prevention Steps:
Cover Wounds: Always use waterproof bandages for cuts or wounds before stepping into contaminated water.

Wear Protection: Use boots and gloves when cleaning up flood-affected areas.

Monitor Symptoms: Look out for fever, headache, muscle pain, and joint pain, and see a doctor right away if symptoms appear.

Stay safe and rely on the advice of qualified healthcare professionals. — VCareNursing.com

🕒 Why Routine Check-Ins Matter for Seniors
Small Visits, Big Difference

As we age, even the smallest health change can quickly turn into something serious if unnoticed. That’s why routine wellness check-ins are one of the most important services we offer at VCare Home Nursing.

These short, consistent visits are not just about care—they're about prevention, protection, and peace of mind.

🩺 What Our Routine Check-Ins Include:
✅ Vital Signs Monitoring
We regularly check blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, and oxygen levels to catch issues early.

✅ Medication Review
Our nurses ensure medications are taken properly and watch for signs of side effects or missed doses.

✅ Mobility & Fall Risk Checks
We assess walking stability and offer support before accidents happen.

✅ Nutrition & Hydration Support
We check for weight changes, appetite loss, or signs of dehydration.

✅ Emotional Well-being
We talk, listen, and observe for signs of loneliness, anxiety, or confusion.

✅ Home Safety Observation
We report any hazards in the home and make suggestions for safer living.

Even if your loved one "seems fine," routine check-ins help detect the early warning signs that families might miss. They allow seniors to live independently—safely—for as long as possible.

⚠️ Why Are Seniors at Higher Risk?
📉 Weakened Muscles & Joints
Aging naturally reduces strength, balance, and coordination—making everyday movements more risky.

👀 Poor Vision
Declining eyesight makes it harder to spot uneven flooring, slippery surfaces, or obstacles.

💊 Medication Side Effects
Some medications cause dizziness, drowsiness, or low blood pressure, increasing fall risk.

🧠 Cognitive Impairment
Conditions like dementia or Parkinson’s disease affect coordination and spatial awareness.

🏠 Hazardous Home Environments
Loose rugs, poor lighting, and cluttered pathways make homes dangerous for aging adults.

✅ How VCare Helps Prevent Falls:
Home safety checks and environment adjustments

Assistance with walking and mobility

24/7 caregiver supervision if needed

Medication management to reduce risky side effects

Exercise support to improve strength and balance

The best fall is the one that never happens. 🏡 Let’s prevent it—together.

🧠 Recognizing Early Signs of Stroke in Seniors
Act FAST. Save a Life.

Every second counts when it comes to stroke—especially for seniors. At VCare Home Nursing, we train our staff to recognize the early warning signs of stroke using the F.A.S.T. method.

Sharing this knowledge can help you save a loved one’s life.

🚨 Learn the F.A.S.T. Warning Signs:
✅ F – Face Drooping
Is one side of the face numb or drooping? Ask the person to smile.

✅ A – Arm Weakness
Is one arm weak or numb? Ask them to raise both arms—does one drift downward?

✅ S – Speech Difficulty
Is speech slurred or hard to understand? Ask them to repeat a simple sentence.

✅ T – Time to Call Emergency Services
If you observe any of these signs, call 1990 (or emergency services) immediately.

⚠️ Stroke Facts You Should Know:
Stroke is a leading cause of disability in elderly adults.

Quick action can prevent brain damage and save lives.

Delaying even minutes can lead to permanent damage.

VCare caregivers are trained to act quickly and alert medical teams.

At VCare, we believe knowledge is power.
We’re not just caregivers—we’re your frontline safety team, ready when it matters most.

🗣️ “How to Talk to Aging Parents About Getting Help”
A Loving Conversation That Can Make All the Difference

Bringing up home care with an aging parent can feel emotional, uncomfortable, or even met with resistance—but it’s often one of the most important conversations a family can have.

At VCare Home Nursing, we’ve helped many families navigate this moment with care, empathy, and respect.

💡 Here Are Gentle Tips to Guide the Conversation:
1. Choose the Right Time & Place
Find a calm, private setting when your parent is relaxed—not during a crisis or hospital visit.

2. Express Love, Not Control
Start with phrases like:
"We want to make sure you’re safe and happy."
"Your comfort and independence matter to us."

3. Focus on Their Needs
Talk about specific changes you’ve noticed: forgetfulness, unsteady walking, missed medications—not as complaints, but as concerns for their well-being.

4. Include Them in the Decision
Let them be part of choosing the type of care. Show them options, introduce the idea of professional help as support, not replacement.

5. Share Real Benefits
Explain how home nursing can make their life easier—not just safer, but more enjoyable (companionship, independence, dignity).

It’s not an easy talk—but it can change everything. 💙
Start the conversation with love, and let VCare be your trusted support.

🕰️ “When Is It Time to Consider Home Nursing?”
Recognizing the Signs Before It’s Too Late

At VCare Home Nursing, families often ask us:
“How do I know it’s time for home nursing?”
The truth is—many signs are subtle at first, but early support can make all the difference.

🧠 Cognitive & Emotional Signs
Increased forgetfulness (missed meals, skipped medication)
Confusion about time, place, or familiar people

🚶‍♂️ Physical Signs
Difficulty walking, balance issues, or frequent falls
Poor personal hygiene or unwashed clothes

🏥 Behavioral & Daily Living Changes
Missing doctor appointments or losing track of medication
Piles of unopened mail, cluttered home, unpaid bills

Small changes can signal big needs. 💙
If you’ve noticed any of these signs in your loved one, it may be time for gentle, professional care at home.
