Colombo high way adjacent to the Royal Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya. The Dental Hospital Peradeniya and Sirimavo Bandaranayaka Children?s Hospitals are located adjacent to the Hospital. The Central Province is primarily a mountainous terrain and has an area of 5,674 km2. The population of the Central Province is 2,421,148, and consists of the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Matale Districts. People of
the province belong to different ethnic groups mainly Sinhalese, Tamils and the Moors. Peradeniya Hospital was donated by the Japanese Government to the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka in August 1980. Thereafter the Hospital was administered under the purview of the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka. All services of the Hospital are provide free of charge, in keeping with free health policy of the Government of Sri Lanka. The Dental Hospital Peradeniya falls under the administrative purview of the Teaching Hospital Peradeniya. From the inception the Hospital functions as a secondary and tertiary Care Centre in the Central Province. We extend our specialized services to patients from North Central, North Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces. We receive regular influx of Intern Medical Officers from the Ministry of Health for training. The School of Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) is located in the Hospital which is one of 3 such institutions in the Sri Lanka. Practical training for student of MLT is also provided at the Hospital. We are a well recognized training centre of the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo for a long period of time. We receive Postgraduate Trainees (Registrars and Senior Registrars) of Surgery, Medicine, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Orthopedics, Haematology, Microbiology, Pathology, Anesthesiology, Radiology, Sport Medicine and Critical Care Medicine.
