Why Children’s Voice Matters 💬

Sometimes what looks like a simple scribble holds a big meaning for a child. In our 3–5 kinder room, we value those thoughts and feelings deeply.

For this self-portrait project, children observed themselves and created their own representations. More importantly, teachers invited each child to share what their drawing means to them—and their words were written under their portraits.

This is more than art. It’s about identity, expression, and feeling heard. When children’s voices are respected, they build confidence and a strong sense of who they are.

Every drawing tells a story… and every story deserves to be listened to. 💛

Little Hands, Big Learning – Play Dough Fun at Gumtree Kids

At Gumtree Kids, our toddlers had a wonderful time helping to make their own play dough and exploring it through play. This simple, hands-on activity is more than just fun—it supports important early development skills.

As children mix, roll, squeeze, and shape the dough, they are strengthening the small muscles in their hands and fingers. These fine motor skills are essential for later tasks like holding a pencil and learning to write.

Play dough also encourages creativity, problem-solving, and sensory exploration, all while building confidence through independent and group play.

It’s amazing to see how everyday activities like this lay the foundation for future learning!

We were honored to host a beautiful Pirith Chanting ceremony at our center this week to bring blessings to our children, staff, and community. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to experience a peaceful cultural tradition and start our day with positive energy.

Little Engineer at Work ✈️

Today, a child sat at the table with Mobilo blocks and carefully began connecting different pieces together. With focus and creativity, he assembled his own design and proudly shared, “I made an aeroplane!”

🌈 Exploring Rainbows Through Art

Our toddlers showed great interest in rainbows, so educators created a fun colour activity to explore this curiosity. Using a cardboard with rainbow colours, the children carefully rubbed it onto white paper to create their own beautiful rainbow effects.

This hands-on experience supported creativity, colour recognition, and fine motor skills while bringing lots of joy and excitement to their learning.

Recycled City Creations for Earth Day ♻️🌍

In view of Earth Day, children explored their interest in cars by working together with teachers to create a mini city using recycled materials. They shared their ideas about where buildings should go and took part in decorating the space. This meaningful, hands-on experience helped children understand the importance of reusing materials while encouraging creativity, teamwork, and imaginative pretend play with small cars and figures.

Celebrating Earth Day with Little Hands 🌍

In celebration of Earth Day, our toddlers engaged in a sensory-rich art and craft experience inspired by the world around them. Using green, yellow, and blue colours, the children explored decorating a simple world map, representing land and water.

They worked closely with teachers to sprinkle salt onto black paper, then used droppers to carefully add coloured liquid, watching how the colours spread and blend across the surface. This hands-on activity was done in small groups, encouraging turn-taking, cooperation, and shared discovery.

Through this experience, children developed fine motor skills, sensory awareness, and an early understanding of caring for our environment. It also supported their curiosity and creativity as they explored colour, texture, and cause-and-effect in a meaningful Earth Day context.
