Greenville, Sinoe County

The F.J. Grante Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce that the hospital has successfully recorded zero maternal deaths for the month of February 2026, marking another important milestone in the facility’s ongoing efforts to strengthen maternal health services in Sinoe County.

This achievement follows the hospital’s earlier success in January and reflects the continued dedication of the clinical team and support staff who work tirelessly to ensure that mothers receive safe and timely care throughout pregnancy, labor, and delivery.

The progress is the result of coordinated efforts among doctors, obstetrics clinicians, midwives, nurses, physician assistants, nurse aides, laboratory staff, and other support personnel who remain committed to safeguarding the lives of mothers and newborns.

The Hospital leadership noted that the milestone also reflects strong collaboration with surrounding health facilities, community health workers, and local communities who continue to support early referral and timely care for pregnant women.

The Medical Director, Dr. Roosevelt Matthews, has commended the clinical and non-clinical staff for their professionalism and dedication in providing the best possible care for patients.

“Every mother deserves the chance to give life safely. FJ Grante Memorial Hospital Conducts Historic Two-Day Medical Outreach in Tartweh, Palatrokan, Kpanyan District

Greenville, Sinoe County

FJ Grante Memorial Hospital, in collaboration with the Sinoe County Health Team, has successfully concluded a two-day comprehensive medical outreach in Tartweh, Palatrokan, Kpanyan District, one of the most remote and hard-to-reach communities in Sinoe County.

The outreach brought together citizens from Palatrokan and surrounding villages and marked the first structured medical outreach ever conducted in the town. For many residents, the initiative represented access to care and signified inclusion, recognition, and renewed hope.

The multidisciplinary outreach team, led by Dr. John T. Sarboah, Jr., comprised Nurses, Physician Assistants, Laboratory Technicians, Vaccinators, Nurse Aides, and support staff who delivered a wide range of essential services, including general medical consultations, surgical evaluations, on-site testing for malaria and diabetes, hypertension screening, antenatal assessments, and vaccination services.

Over the course of the outreach:
• More than 200 patients received medical consultation
• Over 160 individuals were tested for malaria and diabetes
• Thirty-nine (39) pregnant women were screened, vaccinated where appropriate, and several initiated antenatal care for the first time
• Sixty-three (63) children were screened
• Forty-six (46) children tested positive for malaria and were treated immediately

High-risk cases, including pregnant women requiring specialized monitoring, children with complications, and patients in need of surgical intervention, were identified and referred to FJ Grante Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and management.

Palatrokan is located in one of the furthest hinterlands of Sinoe County, with no direct vehicle access. Residents often walk between thirty minutes to one hour to reach the nearest clinic, making timely access to healthcare a persistent challenge. The outreach directly addressed these barriers by delivering services at the community level.

Community members expressed appreciation for what they described as a landmark event in the town’s history. The initiative aligns with ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Health, Republic of Liberia under the leadership of Dr. Louise Mapleh Kpoto to expand equitable healthcare access across Liberia, particularly in underserved and geographically isolated areas.

Speaking during the outreach, Dr. John T. Sarboah Jr., Team Lead, conveyed greetings from the Minister of Health and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to a holistic healthcare system where no citizen is left behind. He noted that expanding outreach services is consistent with the President’s ARREST Agenda, particularly in advancing equitable service delivery and improving national health outcomes.

The outreach forms part of a broader collaborative strategy between FJ Grante Memorial Hospital, the Sinoe County Health Team, and the Ministry of Health to strengthen preventive care, improve early detection of diseases, and reduce preventable morbidity and mortality across Sinoe County.

FJ Grante Memorial Hospital under the leadership of Dr. Roosevelt Matthews remains committed to extending healthcare beyond its walls, strengthening community engagement, and ensuring that quality medical services are accessible to all.

F.J. Grante Memorial Hospital Advances Digital Supply Chain Management with Deployment of M-Supply Software

Greenville, Sinoe County

FJ Grante Memorial Hospital, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Republic of Liberia and Catholic Relief Services (CRS), has commenced the deployment of the M-Supply software system as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen logistics management and digitize healthcare delivery systems in Liberia.

The deployment follows prior training conducted in Grand Bassa County and includes installation of the software at FJ Grante Memorial Hospital, along with a two-day hands-on training for the hospital staff, including pharmacists and dispensers. The system will be utilized to enhance product visibility and traceability across the supply chain, from the hospital’s central pharmacy to dispensaries, and will also improve coordination with the Sinoe County Health Team.

M-Supply is designed to improve transparency, accountability, and efficiency in logistics and supply chain management by enabling real-time tracking of medicines and medical supplies. This initiative forms part of a broader national strategy to digitize healthcare delivery systems and modernize pharmaceutical supply management.

The project is supported by Catholic Relief Services (CRS) with funding from the Global Fund. As part of the support package, CRS donated a brand-new laptop to be used by the hospital’s central pharmacy and committed to providing USD 20 per month for internet data to facilitate routine data uploads and system reporting.

Representing the hospital, Dr. John T. Sarboah, Jr. expressed appreciation to Catholic Relief Services and the Ministry of Health for their leadership and collaboration.

He noted that the initiative represents a significant step toward aligning Liberia’s healthcare system with global digital health standards, while promoting transparency and accountability in pharmaceutical management. Dr. Sarboah Jr further commended the Minister of Health for her vision and transformative leadership in advancing digitization efforts, consistent with the broader national development agenda.

FJ Grante Memorial Hospital remains committed to strengthening institutional systems, improving supply chain efficiency, and ensuring that patients receive timely access to essential medicines and services.

F.J. Grante Memorial Hospital Conducts Obstetrics Outreach in Butaw to Strengthen Maternal Health Services

FJ Grante Memorial Hospital has successfully conducted a one-day obstetrics outreach in Butaw, Sinoe County, aimed at expanding access to maternal health services for women living in hard-to-reach communities.

The outreach was organized as part of the hospital’s ongoing strategy to improve early detection of pregnancy-related risks and prevent avoidable maternal and newborn complications. The activity was led by Obstetrics Clinician Osee S. Fiah and supported by a multidisciplinary clinical team that provided antenatal assessment and ultrasound screening for expectant mothers.

During the outreach held yesterday, February 20, 2025, a total of 43 pregnant women were examined and scanned. All identified high-risk patients were provided with a clear referral pathway to continue care at FJ Grante Memorial Hospital, where appropriate monitoring and delivery planning can be conducted to reduce the risk of complications and maternal mortality.

The outreach also provided an opportunity for health education, allowing mothers to receive guidance on antenatal attendance, danger signs in pregnancy, and the importance of delivering in a health facility.

We are cognizant that bringing services directly to communities helps address barriers such as distance and transportation challenges, while strengthening trust between the health system and the population.

This initiative forms part of the hospital leadership’s broader commitment to maintaining zero maternal deaths and improving maternal and newborn health outcomes across Sinoe County through early detection, timely referral, and continuous community engagement.

The Hospital will continue to implement outreach activities in collaboration with community stakeholders to ensure that no mother is left behind in accessing safe pregnancy and delivery services.
