PROFILE
Hon. Gabriel G. Bedell, Jr. is a Margibian, owner of Kakata Kountry Klub Guest house and former senatorial candidate of Margibi County in the 2014 Senatorial elections. He is a candidate for a degree in Development Studies at the St. Clements University College at ELWA junction. He has been married for thirty four (34) years to Esther Solopaw of River Gee County and is blessed with five (5) children. Three (3) males are IT professionals, one (1) female sociologist and one (1) IT female student. He was born in Rock town, Maryland County, on June 4, 1958. In 1959, he joined his father Mr. Gabriel G. Bedell, Sr. who was then an employee of the Booker Washington Institute in Kakata. He attended St. Augustine, St. Christopher and later Booker Washington Institute where he graduated with a diploma in Accounting in 1978.
Following his graduation, he began his professional career with the LAMCO J.V. Operating Company as assistant paymaster at a tender age of 20 years. He served the company for eleven (11) years before joining the successor company LIMCO. The employment was short-lived due to the Liberian Civil War. Mr. Bedell and his family took refuge in Ghana. While in Ghana, He studied Export and Shipping Management. Hon. Bedell affiliated with Ghana Export Promotion Council, an autonomous bureau of the Ministry of Trade. He and other Liberians were given dispensation to attend all workshops/seminars in Export Marketing, Financing and Promotion. He returned home in 1997 and took up employment as accountant with Don Bosco Polytechnic, now (Stella Maris). He further served as an accountant for 4Rs Program at MVTC. It was a training program for ex-combatants.
After the closure of the Program, Hon. Bedell was employed by LINPICO as National Technical Specialist in Project Writing, Monitoring and Evaluation. LINPICO was an implementing partner of the European Union at Mamba Point. Hon. Gabriel Bedell, intermittently served as Executive Director of Export Promoters (Liberia), Inc. During his tenure, he formed part of Liberia’s delegations to Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso and Ghana on trade development. Finally, he addressed several forums at the U.S Embassy including U.S Trade and USAID delegations’ visit to Monrovia; also, he addressed the International Trade Center delegations and was lead speaker during UNIDO Quality Day Program at the Liberia Chamber of Commerce among others.
MISSION
To solve the pressing issues of Margibi County: such as, extreme hunger and poverty, social injustices and rising inequality , youth and women underdevelopment, high unemployment, huge capital flight, poor and inadequate infrastructures, poor healthcare program, weak educational system, weak business organizations and finally, to establish economic institution that shall engage in income generating activities for the purpose of raising tens of millions of US Dollars annually to remedy the critical problems of Margibi County. These problems when addressed, they shall create a wholesome functioning society that manifest growth and development of Margibi County.
To further represent Margibi County at the Liberian Senate to enact laws that shall have positive impact on the growth and development of Liberia in general and Margibi County in particular in terms of the economy, human development and international relations etc.
Finally, to hold hearings on critical issues that violate ethical, moral and financial standards; and or that impede the growth and development of Liberia.
OBJECTIVES
To ably represent Margibi County as an active voice of the people at the Liberian Senate.
To reduce hunger and poverty by creating the structures and engaging the rural poor into sustaining production of food items
To make Margibi self-reliant on food production: such as rice, fish, chicken, onions, etc.
To raise money for Margibi’s development through governmental and non- governmental organizations partnership
To develop and strengthen Margibi’s Human capital in every field of studies: such as Science & technology, engineering, Mathematics, Arts & Theater, sports, etc.
To finance and strengthen Margibians’ businesses through trade / investment and creating an enabling environment.
To create employment opportunities in Agric, value-added production, construction, handicraft sectors
To reduce capital flight by engaging in local production of import substitute products: such as rice, onions, fish, and poultry products.
To expand Margibi’s narrow export base to include but not limited to pineapple, banana, pawpaw, chilies, ginger, etc.
To build the technical capacities of health care personnel in every department, equipping and establishing control over essential drugs to ensure availability at all times
To strengthen youth and women in artisan skill to seek gainful employment
To incorporate competitive curriculum into the school system
To build new and improve existing infrastructures: such as public libraries, laboratories, healthcare centers, vocational school, theater, paved streets, feeder roads etc.
To ensure the existence of social equality and justice
VISION
I envision Margibi County where justice and equality prevails, food in abundance and affordable, poverty reduced, where infrastructures are well situated and the youthful human resources are better trained in engineering, innovation and technology, medicine, science, mathematics, arts & theatre, sports etc.
GOAL
To lift Margibi County from poverty to prosperity, from hunger to abundance, from underdevelopment to developed County
DEVELOPMENT AGENDA
Margibians deserved to live in decent environments with good infrastructures; have abundance of affordable food, competitive schools with all the facilities for learning; good healthcare program, Furthermore, Margibians must have technical and technological knowledge, also knowledge in science, mathematics, arts and theater, sports etc.
The below activities shall raise the needed financial resources for Margibi development.
Activity-1 Production Base
To raise money through production and sale of import substitute food items (rice, onions, poultry, fish etc).
Activity- 2 Export Base
To raise money through export of processed pineapple, banana, and pawpaw to USA and E.U. through African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) and Everything But Arms (EBA) respectively. We need to take advantages of these arrangements to attract foreign exchange to Margibi County for her development.
Activity -3 Import Base
-To raise money through importation of building materials and others goods for sale to Margibians and others. These shall raise additional funds for Margibi’s Development.
All of these activities shall be undertaken by Project Develop Margibi County (PDMC).
ABOUT PROJECT DEVELOP MARGIBI COUNTY
PDMC shall be a Corporate Business Entity to be managed by both local and foreign expertise to yield the desirous results of earning Millions of U.S Dollars in trade annually for Margibi County’s Development.
Other proposed institutions that shall assist in steering the economy of Margibi County are:
