The day the doctor says the word cancer, time often feels like it stops. Questions rush in all at once, Why me? How long? What about my family? For many people, that moment becomes the beginning of hospital visits, silent prayers, financial strain, physical pain, and emotional battles that no one ever truly prepares you for. Cancer is not just a diagnosis; it is a daily fight that tests the body, the mind, and the spirit.

Globally, cancer continues to claim millions of lives each year. Behind every statistic is a real person-a parent who didn’t live long enough to watch their child grow, a young person whose dreams were interrupted, a family forced to say goodbye too soon. Yet within this reality is a powerful truth: many cancers are preventable, treatable, and even curable when detected early. Small choices-healthy eating, avoiding to***co, staying active, and regular screening-can mean the difference between life and loss.

As we observe World Cancer Week, Help a Mother & Newborn Initiative stands , reminding the world that while every cancer journey is different, no one should walk it alone. Today, we raise awareness not to spread fear, but to inspire action, compassion, and hope. Because every life matters-and every story deserves a fighting chance.

💜🎗️

Today, the conversation is about every life touched by cancer. Somewhere, a young person is hearing the word cancer for the first time. Somewhere, a mother is gathering strength she never knew she had. Somewhere, a family is learning how to live with uncertainty, while holding tightly to hope. Cancer does not discriminate, and its impact reaches far beyond the patient.

As we observe World Cancer Week, Help a Mother & Newborn Initiative stands , acknowledging that every cancer journey is different, yet every story deserves compassion, care, and support. This week is a reminder that awareness saves lives, early screening matters, and no one should feel alone in their fight.

Support. Prevent. Screen. Care.
Together, let us raise our voices, extend empathy, and keep hope alive-because every story is still being written.

Help Rural Teen Mothers Lead Change at a regional Conference

Too often, Teen mothers are told their lives are over the moment they become pregnant.

They are pushed out of school.
Judged by their communities.
Left without support, opportunity, or a voice.

At Help a Mother and Newborn Initiative (HMNI), we believe the opposite:

Teen mothers are not finished- they are still becoming.

In March 2026, adolescent girls from across Africa will gather in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire for the Adolescent Girls Summit (AGS 2026) under the theme “Count Us In.” This is a powerful space where girls shape solutions, influence policy, and speak for themselves.

2 Teen mothers from our program already have support to attend through the Global Fund for Children, but we hope to raise for for 5 more.

These girls come from rural communities where pregnancy means isolation and silence.

With your support, they can travel, speak, learn, and return home as leaders and advocates for other girls like them.

This is not just about attending a summit.
It’s about changing what is possible for Teen mothers in Liberia.

Every contribution-big or small, helps a young mother be seen, heard, and counted.

We’re excited to share our HMNI 2025 Annual Report 🎉

In 2025, we mobilized $101,745.19 and invested $79,639.97 into programs and systems that support adolescent girls, teen mothers, and youth-led SRHR leadership—ending the year with a $24,821.12 balance to carry momentum into 2026.

âś… Biggest highlight: completing EmpowerHer Journey (EHJ) Cohort 1 with 70+ adolescent mothers supported through mentorship, SRHR/maternal health learning, and skills building.
✅ We also delivered SRHR Coach Masterclass Cohorts III & IV, strengthened Peer-to-Peer Clubs in 8 schools, and closed out EchoChange—community-led advocacy and accountability.

Thank you to our communities, partners, and supporters for trusting youth- and women-led work. đź’›

International Education Day 2026

Everywhere in the world, education becomes transformative when young people are given the space to learn, lead, and inspire change. Through HMNI’s Peers-to-Peers Club Learning, young people are learning about their health, building confidence, and stepping forward as ambassadors in their communities. When youth are empowered as co-creators of education, they don’t just gain knowledge; they shape healthier futures, influence their peers, and drive meaningful social change. Investing in youth today means building a stronger, more informed Liberia tomorrow.
