🕊️ TRIBUTE TO A SCIENTIFIC ICON — JAMES D. WATSON (1928 – 2025)

The Biological Science Students Association (BIOSSA-UL) joins the global scientific community in mourning the passing of Dr. James D. Watson, one of the greatest figures in modern biology.

At just 25 years old, Watson, alongside Francis Crick, unveiled one of the most important discoveries in science — the double-helix structure of DNA. This groundbreaking revelation forever changed our understanding of life, heredity, and the molecular basis of genetics.

Their work earned them the 1962 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, marking a turning point in biological and medical research. Watson later played key roles in advancing molecular biology and inspiring projects like the Human Genome Project.

While his legacy includes both remarkable scientific achievements and controversial views, his contribution to science remains foundational. His work continues to influence medicine, biotechnology, and every branch of the life sciences.

As future scientists, BIOSSA members are reminded that true learning means celebrating discovery while upholding ethics, respect, and integrity in science.
